ReplyDeleteHi Jake Armitage,
DeleteThanks for coming here.
I;m so glad to know that it works for you :)
But what if the ringtone isn't available? How do you make it available?
ReplyDeleteHi Kasena,
DeleteThanks for coming.
I think all of the phone were come with the some of default ringtones. If you can't find any ringtone on your phone, then you can use third-party apps named Rings Extended to pick up the music files from any folder to set as a ringtone. How to assign different message ring tones to different contacts in S3?
ReplyDeleteHi Humeria Riaz,
DeleteThanks for coming.
Unfortunately, there's no option to do so in the stock Messaging apps or Contacts apps. But, you can try to use Handcent, Go SMS Pro or Ringo. All of them will allow you to assign different ringtone and notification tones for each contact.
Hope this helps :)
Hi I doubt you'll read this or want another answer to your question but I believe you can assign different tones. If you're interested reply to this and I will explain how.

ReplyDeleteHi Sam Cowles,

Make sure your phone is not in silent or vibrate mode and/or try to restart your phone then see whether it helps :)
I accidentally clicked that i always wanted it to be the default sounds for notifications how do i get this back to allowing me to use my own music :c ?
ReplyDeleteHi Jade Etchison,
DeleteThanks for coming.
Try to install another third party File Manager app (eg. ES File Explorer app), you can get it for free through the Play Store. Once you've done installing this app, go to the Messaging settings and then tap "Select ringtone", choose "ES File Explorer" in the complete action using screen, navigate to the folder where the music file you wish to use as message tone is saved and tap the desired music file to activate it as your message tone.
Hope this helps :)
I have a MP3 file in on my phone which I want to use as a ring tone, and I've been struggling for over an hour to put it in the right place using the "my Files" app, but no matter where I put it, it never show up on the list of available ringtones. And I don't want to download an app for something that should be standard and simple.
ReplyDeleteI've tried putting it in
/storage/sdcard0/Notifications
/storage/sdcard0/Ringtones
/storage/sdcard0/Sounds
/storage/sdcard0/Music
/storage/sdcard0/Samsung/Music
and no luck. What the heck guys? What the heck? It's this kind of thing that will prevent me from buying a Samsung again. Where must I put my file so I can either find it in my list of "Device ringtones" or add it through the list proved by the Music Player?
Nevermind... I restarted my phone, and then suddenly it worked.
ReplyDeleteHi Hannodb,

I'm so happy to know that you finally be able to solve the problem by yourself. FYI, I've just duplicated your issue using the steps as you've directed. But, I noticed that if we wants to add certain MP3 files to the Message tone list, you just need to place that MP3 files under /storage/sdcard0/Notifications
Thank you !!! just what i was after,
DeleteHi dudes. I can change default ringtones to any music i want. I can assign ringtones to contacts as long as the contacts are on the phone not on the sim...but i am restricted to only using factory sounds for messages. Can this be changed...... overall nokia was much better at this stuff!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Funk Leberry,
DeleteThanks for coming.
There are some methods that you can use to set any music files as the message tone. Once of which is by placing the desired music files you want to use as the message tone in the Notifications folder in the internal storage ( /storage/sdcard0/Notifications).
It'll automatically add those music files to the message tone list in the Messaging app settings.
I put my own sound in the notifications folder and selected it in the settings but whenever I get a text it plays the original notification tone I had before I changed it to a custom tone. How can I get it to play the the tone that I want?
ReplyDeleteHi Lané Reinach,
DeleteThanks for coming.
Did you install another third-party Messaging app in your phone(e.g: Handcent, Go SMS Pro, etc)?
Did you enable SMS feature in Hangouts app?
Have you ever tried to change the notifications in the Settings> My device> Sound>Notifications?
