Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Enable and Use Wi-Fi Direct to Transfer Files

Previously we have learn about some cool features embedded on the Samsung Galaxy SIII. One of them is the S Beam. This feature allows us to transfer files between two Galaxy SIII or another Samsung's devices with Android 4.0 or higher by using a combination of NFC and Wi-Fi Direct.

Here, Wi-Fi Direct charge for the actual file transfer, this means you can transfer files at speeds up to 300Mbps.

How to Enable Wi-Fi Direct?
Before utilizing the features that require Wi-Fi Direct to work, such as S Beam, then you first have to enable it. There are two ways that you can use for this.

THE FIRST WAY
As written in ibosocial.com, below are simple steps to enable Wi-Fi Direct:
  1. Turn Wi-Fi on.
  2. Choose Wi-Direct.
  3. You can rename your device to be easily recognizable by tap on the menu and then rename.
  4. Tap on scan to find other devices that are available.
  5. Tap on the name of your destination device to connect.
  6. The other device that will do the transfer with your device have to do the same thing and tap on your device's name to connect.
  7. Done. Now you are ready to use Wi-Fi Direct in your Samsung Galaxy SIII.

THE SECOND WAY
From the website primeinspiration.com, below are simple steps to enable Wi-Fi Direct:
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Choose More Settings.
  3. Choose Wi-Fi Direct.
  4. Turn it on by sliding its switch to the right.
  5. Choose a scan to discover other devices that are available.
  6. Tap on the name of your destination device to connect.
  7. The other device that will do the transfer with your device have to do the same thing and tap on your device's name to connect.
  8. Done. Now you are ready to use Wi-Fi Direct in your Samsung Galaxy SIII.

And, the good news when you do the transfer with Wi-Fi Direct is that you can transfer files to multiple devices and send the it by selecting Multi-connect option.


How to Use Wi-Fi Direct to transfer files?
Once you have managed to enable it, it's time to use it to transfer files to other Samsung Galaxy SIII. As an example we will use this to share pictures. As written on androidtapp.com, here are the steps you need to do:
  1. Open Camera App.
  2. Go to "Shooting mode" then tap on "Share shot".
  3. Accept the pop-up message that appears.
  4. Enable Wi-Fi Direct using one of both ways mentioned above.
  5. Take a picture you want. Your shot will automatically sends over Wi-Fi Direct to another Galaxy SIII that have been connected with you.
  6. If you receive a file with the Wi-Fi Direct from the other device, then the file will be automatically stored in your device. To find the file you can see it in the folder "SBeamShare".

    I have Galaxy S3 .. Wifi direct doesn't work .
    I can open it and connect with other device, but can't send files .. there is no message on the other device to accept the file transfer .
    I tried with more than one device .. seems the problem from my mobile .

      Thanks for coming.
      Try to disable it first then restart your phone. Once the phone is on, try again to send a file using Wi-Fi Direct. If you don't mind, try to receive file from another device use Wi-Fi Direct then let me know if you be able or not receive the file on your phone.

  2. When I use the wifi direct it asks the other device for my password. I can't figure out the problem and as far as I remember i never put any password so ultimately I am unable to send or receive the data through wifi direct.

      What are the device connected to you? Or, did this problem happen for all the devices which are trying to connect to your phone using wifi direct?

    2. I have the same problem with both of my samsung s3s.When I connect the devices and go to the wifi list, it has the word direct and my device name but it has a password on it and I don't recall putting one on there.I was wondering if you know how to change it or find out what it is.

  3. Wifi direct not showing sending box how can fix the problem.

      What did you mean about sending box? Did you unable to send a file using Wi-Fi direct? Or, did you unable to locate the W-Fi direct option? Or, did you mean that there's no notification when you send a file using Wi-Fi direct?
