Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Fix Can't Change Bluetooth Name on Android 4.3

One more, an insider named Maureen has dropped her question to me through the email to ask why her phone shows the device name as SGH-I747 instead of a different name as she had configured before she did update the phone to the Android 4.3 when she use the phone to transfer contact files with her friend using the Bluetooth connection. As we all know that Bluetooth is one of the most used mode of connectivity to do the file transfer or share the internet data to another Bluetooth capable devices, so the appropriate Bluetooth name will help us a lot to recognize the device much more easier. Unfortunately, in her mail she said that now she also no longer can't find the option to rename the Bluetooth name through the Bluetooth settings menu as the way she did prior the update.

Apparently, the changes in the appearance of the Settings menu brings a little difficulties to the user to do some settings, for instance when the user wants to change the Bluetooth name. Now, in Android 4.3 you can change the Bluetooth name through the device name in the about device menu instead of the Bluetooth settings menu.

How to change the device name in Android 4.3?
Due to rename option in the Bluetooth settings menu is no longer available, then you can follow the steps below to change the Bluetooth name in the Android 4.3:
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap More.
  3. Tap About device.
  4. Tap Device name.
  5. In the Device name field, type the desired device name you wish to use.
  6. Tap OK button.
  7. The device name has been changed.

For the record, once you change the device name, this will not only change the Bluetooth name, but also change the Wi-Fi direct name and the name of the entire of the apps. So, hope this helps :)

    1. Hi Cynthia James,
      Thanks for coming.
You can share your music files (or other files) via Bluetooth through My Files app. You can do so by opening My Files app and then navigate to the folder where your music files are saved then check the box next to the desired music files you wish to share. Tap "Share" button located at the top of the screen then select "Bluetooth" and then follow the on-screen instruction.
      Hope it helps :)

    1. Hi Kyles,
      Thanks for coming.
How did you know that others can change your Bluetooth name? If what you mean is others change your Bluetooth name in their devices, then you can't prevent it. As we've known that we're allowed to change Bluetooth name of a paired device in our phones.

  5. Hi! Thanks for the tip. It worked just fine.
I have another problem though, my words aren't being remembered. It cannot suggest me my "most used phrases". Do you know how to fix this?

    1. Hi Ricake,
      Thanks for coming.
CMIIW, did you mean about add new word into dictionary so when you're typing a part of the word your phone will show your most used phrases related with that word on the auto-complete suggestion bar? If so, try to enable "Predictive text" and "Auto replacement" in your keyboard settings (I've tested it with Android 4.3). Now, try to type your own word, for instance type the word "smush", instead of tapping the space bar, tap the down arrow icon (v) in the right side of the auto complete suggestion bar then tap the word "smush". Now, the word "smush" should be displayed as the suggestion whenever you type smush.

    2. No, previously whenever I typed a phrase it would appear later as a suggestion (word by word).

    3. Hi Ricake,
      Thanks for coming back here.
Well, seems I have misunderstood with your question, I'm so sorry about it. CMIIW, both the Predictive text and the Auto replacement only work to suggest/correct/complete a single word. They don't work to suggest/correct/complete multiple words/phrase.
