Another issue with the similar causes which also occurs in Android 4.3 is the difficulty to get back the functionality of the multi window feature. If previously the user will be able to bring up the multi window panel by long pressing the Back button, now in Android 4.3 the user can't do so, though they already checked the multi window option through the Settings menu. To fix this problem, you need to do another steps instead of just turned on the multi window option.
How to enable multi window feature on Android 4.3?
Below are the steps with a little tweaks revealed by a user in XDA-developer forum that you need to do to allow you brings up the multi window panel using the Back button:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap My Device.
- Tap Home screen mode.
- Select Easy mode and then followed by tapping Apply button.
- Now, go back to the Settings menu.
- Tap My Device.
- Tap Home screen mode.
- Select Standard mode and then followed by tapping Apply button.
- Now, go back to the Settings menu.
- Tap My Device.
- Tap Display.
- Enable Multi window by ticking the box next to this option. When the box is ticked means this option is enabled.
Once you've done the step above, now you should be able to open up the multi window panel by long pressing the Back button. So, hope this helps :)
The implication of this seems to be the multi window is no longer available in easy mode - not an improvement imho.

DeleteThanks for coming and share your thought here.
Yep, you might be right. Indeed, the multi window is not a new feature. But, I noticed in Android 4.3 the user should do an "extra" steps to make certain option works.
Thanks, it works in a way as you described!

ReplyDeleteHi Inass Abou-Khodier,
DeleteThanks for coming.
Did you mean Contacts app is no longer available in your phone? If so, Contacts app may accidentally was disabled. So, try to go to Settings>tap "More" tab> tap "Application manager"> swipe the screen to the right until you see the "Disabled/Turned off" screen>tap "Contacts" app> tap "Enable/Turn on" button.
This will bring back Contacts app to the Apps menu.
Thanks this worked!

Hi. It's 4 years later and I still have an S3. Hope Rehan is still out there. I tried your multi-window fix sequence 3x and no go. Holding BACK doesn't work. Any other ideas?
ReplyDeleteHi. I posted a comment about multi-window. Disregard please. That little toolbar on the right WAS the multi-window select. I dragged Messages and Chrome over and voila, the screen split in two. I can't believe I've owned this phone for 4 and a half years and never used it. It's fantastic. Now, when you click EDIT, is the list of apps displayed the only ones you can use in multi-window? I'd like phone and camera available, too. Many, Many thanks. I followed your script to get the MIC back on the keyboard. Man, what a relief. I had disabled a bunch of Google apps one day I was trying to speed up the performance. Have fun! (Gee, I should get a new phone.)
