Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Unlink Contacts in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

One of the ways that can be done to avoid the Contacts app displays duplicate contacts when you have chosen to display all contacts from all sources or accounts is by linking the same contacts so that they will be displayed as a single entry in the Contacts app. Aside from linking contacts, if needed, you can also separate a contact from linked contacts so that the contact will be displayed as a separate entry in the Contacts app, for instance when you have accidentally linked a wrong contact.

How to separate linked contacts?
You can unlink a contact from linked contacts to display the contact as an individual entry by using these following methods:

Method #1
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. If needed, tap the Contacts tab.
  3. Tap the required contact you want to separate.
  4. Tap or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then select Unlink contacts.
  5. Tap next to the required entry you want to separate.
  6. Tap OK button to confirm separation.
  7. The selected contact has been separated.

Method #2
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. If needed, tap the Contacts tab.
  3. Tap the required contact you want to separate.
  4. Tap in the Connected via section.
  5. Tap next to the required entry you want to separate.
  6. Tap OK button to confirm separation.
  7. The selected contact has been separated.
