Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable and Use Tracking AF Feature in Camera App in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Tracking AF is a feature in the Camera app in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that will let you set the camera to track and automatically focus on the object you have selected on the preview screen. You can use this feature when you want to easily take a picture of a moving object because the camera will automatically track and focus on the selected object even when it's moving, or when you want to take a picture of the same object in different positions or angles without you have to manually set the focus each time you or your phone is moving.

How to enable or disable the tracking AF feature in the Camera app?
You can turn on or off this feature by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Camera app.
  2. Tap  to open the detailed settings.
  3. Tap the ON/OFF switch next to Tracking AF to enable or disable it. When the switch turns , means the tracking AF feature is enabled and the camera in your phone will be able to focus on and track a subject that you have selected on the preview screen.

Before using the tracking AF feature to take a picture, you have to remember that the camera may fail when tracking an object in the following conditions:
  • The object is too big or small.
  • The object moves or the camera shakes excessively.
  • The object is in the low-light environment.
  • The object and the background have the same colours or patterns.

How to use the tracking AF feature in the Camera app?
As the example, we'll use this feature while taking a picture of a moving object with the auto mode by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Camera app. By default, it uses the rear camera with the auto mode.
  2. Point the camera to the object.
  3. Tap the object on the preview screen you want to track and auto focus on. When the object is moving, the camera will automatically track and auto focus on it.
  4. Tap to take a photo.
FYI, if you have difficulty when taking a picture using the on-screen icon, you can say the predefined voice command or press the Volume key as the alternative way to do so.
  5. Tap the preview thumbnail to view the photo you have just taken in the Gallery app.
