Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable and Use Easy Screen Turn On Feature in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Easy screen turn on, or we used to call it as gesture wake up or air wake up, is one of accessibility features in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that will let you easily turn on the screen by waving you hand above the sensor while your phone is on a stable surface. You can use this feature when you need to see unread notifications or other information on the lock screen without you have to press any physical keys(Power key or Home key).

How to enable or disable the easy screen turn on feature?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to find Accessibility and then tap it.
FYI, if you have enabled the direct access feature and selected the accessibility option, you can quickly access the accessibility menu from any screen by pressing the Home key three times quickly to open up the direct access menu and then tap Accessibility.
  3. Tap Dexterity and interaction.
  4. Tap Easy screen turn on.
  5. Tap the ON/OFF switch to enable or disable the easy screen turn on feature. When the switch turns blue , means the easy screen turn on feature is enabled and your phone's screen will automatically turn on when you move your hand above the sensor while your phone is on a stable surface.

How to use the easy screen turn on feature?
See the following steps as the example of using this feature:
  1. Put your phone on a stable surface, such as on a table.
  2. After the screen is turned off, move your hand above the proximity sensor(it's located above the screen next to the LED indicator) to turn the screen back on.

  1. I have a Sprint version S6. After having turned this "easy on" feature on, I am now unable to TURN IT OFF. Any suggestions or tricks without choosing factory reset? I have tried every possible and logical sequences to turn it off with no luck. Please help. Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Paul Sutherland,
      Thanks for coming.
Do you have a third-party app related with the proximity/light sensor? If any, you can uninstall this app and then try turning off the easy screen turn on feature.
If you don't have any kind of those apps, you can try performing reset settings by using the following steps:
      1. Go to the settings menu.
      2. Scroll down the screen to find "Backup and reset" and then tap it.
      3. Scroll down the screen and then tap "Reset settings".
      4. Tap "Reset settings" button.

FYI, this will only reset your phone to the factory default settings. Your downloaded apps and data will not be deleted. But, if you're worried about it, you can backup them first before performing reset settings.

  2. Would be nice to have an easy screen turn off like if you sweep left to right it tun off and vice versa.
