If you have added a lot of apps shortcuts on home screen in your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or installed a lot of apps, you can make the way you access and launch apps with more quickly by creating a folder in the home screen or apps screen to gather similar apps in a single place. It will also can be used to simplify your home screen and apps screen as well as let you use another empty area to display more apps without you have to add more panels in home screen or use new pages in apps screen.


How to create a folder in the home screen?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Go to the required home screen panel where you want to create a new folder in.
  2. Tap and hold an app shortcut and then drag it over another app shortcut.
  3. Release the app shortcut when a folder frame appears around the selected app shortcuts. A new folder contains with the selected apps shortcuts has been created.
  4. When needed, you can give a name for the folder by entering the desired name in the Enter folder name field and then tap Done button.
  5. When needed, you can change the background colour of the folder by tapping and then select the required colour you want to use.
  6. Press the Home button to view the folder.

How to create a folder in the apps screen?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On the home screen, tap Apps at the bottom right corner to go to the apps screen.
  2. Tap Edit button at the top right to edit the apps screen.
  3. Tap and hold an app and then drag it over another app.
  4. Release the app when a folder frame appears around the apps. A new folder contains with the selected apps has been created.
  5. When needed, you can give a name for the folder by entering the desired name in the Enter folder name field and then tap Done button.
  6. When needed, you can change the background colour of the folder by tapping and then select the required colour you want to use.
  7. Tap Done button at the top right to save the changes.

How to move items in home screen?
You can do so by using two different methods: by dragging and dropping items and by using the move apps feature.

Method #1: By dragging and dropping items
  1. To move an item within a home screen panel, tap and hold the required item on the home screen and then drag it to a new location. Release to place the item.
  2. To move an item to another home screen panel, tap and hold the required item on the home screen and then drag it to the side of the screen until you're in the required panel you want to use to place the item. Release to place the item.

Method #2: By using the move apps feature
You can use the following steps to easily move items to another home screen panel:
  1. On the home screen, tap and hold an item and then drag it to Move apps at the top of the screen. The item will move to the panel at the top of the screen. You can repeat this step if you'd like to move other items.
  2. Swipe the screen to the left or right until you're in the required home screen panel you want to use to place the item.
  3. Tap the item on the panel at the top of the screen and your phone will automatically place the item on the empty area. Alternatively, tap and hold the item on the panel at the top of the screen and then drag it to manually place the item on the required location. Release the item to place it.

By default, each home screen panel in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is divided to 4 rows and 4 columns to allow you display up to 16 apps shortcuts or 1x1 widgets in a single home screen panel. When needed, instead of adding or removing home screen panels, you can change the home screen grid size so you can display less or more apps shortcuts or widgets on the home screen.


How to change the screen grid size?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On the home screen, pinch the screen using two fingers or long tap on an empty area to go to the edit screen.
  2. Tap Screen grid button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select the required grid size you want to use. There are three options available:
    • 4x4: select this option to divide a home screen panel becomes 4 rows and 4 columns so you can use it to display up to 16 items.
    • 4x5: select this option to divide a home screen panel becomes 4 rows and 5 columns so you can use it to display up to 20 items.
    • 5x5: select this option to divide a home screen panel becomes 5 rows and 5 columns so you can use it to display up to 25 items. As a note, when you choose this option, the app screen layout will also be changed to 5 rows and 5 columns to match it with the home screen layout.
  4. Tap Apply button to save the changes.
  5. The selected grid size will be applied to your home screen. You can press the Home button to see the changes.
