Some of you may already know that the phone saves the app cache in order to improve the app performance and make it load faster. In a normal state, the app cache shouldn't cause any problem for your phone, but it sometimes can be corrupted and cause the app to misbehave or experience an error, for instance the app crashes, the app is not working properly, the app runs slower than usual, etc. In this case, you need to clear the app cache to fix the problem.


How to clear app cache?
There are two methods that can be used to access the clear cache option: from the apps menu and from the app manager.


Method #1: From the Apps menu
This method can be applied for all apps that are listed in the apps menu. But, as the example, we'll try performing clear cache for Internet app from the apps menu by using the following steps:
  1. In Home screen, tap Apps to go to the apps menu.
  2. Tap and hold the Internet app icon and then drag it to the App info icon located at the top of the screen.
  3. In the App info screen, tap Clear cache button.
  4. The Internet app cache has been cleared.


Method #2: From the App Manager
This method can be applied for all apps even when the app is not listed in the apps menu. But, as the example, we'll try performing clear cache for Download manager by using the following steps:
  1. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Applications section and then tap Application manager .
  3. Swipe the screen from the right to the left to access the ALL screen.
  4. Scroll down to find Download manager, and then tap it.
  5. Tap Clear cache button.
  6. The Download manager cache has been cleared.

As a note, if you have cleared the app cache, the app will re-create cache when you re-run the app and it can slow down the app. Once it is completed, the app will work normally.

If you used to manage your non-Gmail email accounts in the stock Email app, now you can add and manage them in the Gmail app since its latest version, Gmail 5.0, has a new feature that will let you to add third-party email accounts, e.g: Yahoo, AOL Mail, Outlook, etc. By adding all of your email accounts(either Gmail or third-party email accounts) in one place, you'll be able to save your time because you can switch between accounts and manage them with ease.


How to add a third-party email account in Gmail app?
As the example, we'll try adding a Yahoo email account in Gmail app. See the following steps to do so:
  1. Open Gmail app.
  2. Tap located at the top left corner of the screen.
  3. Tap the currently used email address and then tap Add account.
  4. Tap Personal(IMAP/POP) and then tap OK button.
  5. Enter your Yahoo email address and then tap Next button.
  6. Enter your Yahoo email password and then tap Next button.
  7. If needed, you can configure the account options here, such as: sync frequency, download attachment settings, etc. Tap Next button to continue.
  8. If needed, you can change the account name and the name that will be displayed on outgoing messages. Tap Next button.
  9. Your Yahoo email account has been added.

When you have added a third-party email account in Gmail app, you'll see a new circle representing your account. If a Gmail account is represented with the default icon or your Google profile photo, then a third-party email account is represented with the first letter of the name you've set to be displayed on outgoing messages, for instance if you have set the name with "My name" then the icon will look like this icon .

The floating red compose button is a new feature that can be found in the latest Gmail version, Gmail 5.0. This button gives Gmail app a new look since it replaces the regular-compose-email icon that you used to find on the action bar. This button will also let you to easily access the email composition window since it's always accessible regardless the inbox category or the email label that is being opened.


How to send an email message in Gmail app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open Gmail app. By default, the primary inbox of the currently used account will be displayed.
  2. Tap located at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  3. By default, the From field will automatically be filled with the email address of the currently used account. But, if you have added multiple accounts and want to switch to the other one, then you can easily do so by tapping and then select the required account you want to use to send the email message.
  4. In the To field, enter the recipient's email address. While you're typing, all matching contacts will be displayed and you can select one of them.
  5. In the Subject field, enter the subject of the email message.
  6. In the Compose email field, write down your message.
  7. If needed, you can attach files in your email message by using the following steps:
    • Tap at the action bar and then select Attach file.
    • Tap at the top left corner of the screen and then select the required category where the files you want to attach are placed in.
    • Select the required file you want to attach.
    • If you want to attach some files at once, you can multi select them by tapping and holding the first file and then single tap the next ones. Tap Open to attach the selected files.
    • The selected files will be attached.
  8. Tap to send your email message.

Basically, sending an email message in Gmail 5.0 has a similar way as you used to do in the older version. The difference is now the icon to compose a new email message is displayed as a floating icon and is located at the bottom of the screen.

If you have updated your Gmail app to the latest version, Gmail 5.0, you may notice that this app now has a new feature to add multiple accounts directly from the app itself. Multiple accounts let you have different accounts for different purposes or have different settings on each account. To facilitate you managing your multiple accounts, Gmail app lets you to use multiple sign-in to easily switch between accounts without having to sign out the currently used account just so you can sign in to the other one.


How to switch between accounts in Gmail app?
Assuming that you have added multiple Google accounts in your phone, then you can use these two common methods to switch between accounts in Gmail app: by dragging the profile photo and by tapping the email address.


Method #1: By dragging the profile photo
  1. Open Gmail app.
  2. Tap located at the top left corner of the screen.
  3. The profile photo of the currently used account is displayed in a bigger icon at the top left corner of the screen.
  4. If you have two accounts:
    • Drag the bigger profile photo to the right.
    • The primary inbox of the second account will be displayed.
  5. If you have more than two accounts:
    • Drag the bigger profile photo to the right.
    • Without lifting your finger from the screen, drag the bigger profile photo with another finger to the right to switch to another account.
    • When the required account is selected, release your finger and the primary inbox of the selected account will be displayed.


Method #2: By tapping the email address
  1. Open Gmail app.
  2. Tap located at the top left corner of the screen.
  3. Tap the currently used email address(it's located below the bigger profile photo).
  4. Other accounts will be listed above the Add account option.
  5. Tap the required account you want to sign in to.
  6. The primary inbox of the selected account will be displayed.

Tips:
To distinguish the accounts, you can see the email address or set each account to have different profile pictures.

I do believe that most of you may have already known that you can add multiple Google accounts in your Samsung Galaxy S5. This ability lets you to add more than one Google accounts in your phone and use each of them to access or use other Google-related apps, e.g: Gmail, Youtube, Play Store, Hangouts etc.


How to add another Google account?
Assuming that you have added your first Google account in your phone, now you can add the second one by using two common methods available: from the setting menu and from a Google-related app.


Method #1: From the settings menu
It is the most common method to add any account into your phone, including with the Google account. Use the following steps to add another Google account from the settings menu:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the User and backup section and then tap Accounts .

  5. Here, you'll be presented with two buttons to add your another Google account, they are:
    • Existing: tap this button to add your existing Google account.
    • New: tap this button to create a new Google account.
  6. Next, you just need to follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
  7. Once done, the newly added Google account will be listed in the Google account list.


Method #2: From a Google-related app
Basically, you can add another Google account from some of Google-related apps, but as the example we'll do so from the Gmail app. I choose Gmail app because its newest version, Gmail 5.0, now has the new feature to add another Google account. Use the following steps to do so:
  1. Open Gmail app.
  2. Tap located at the top left corner of the screen.
  3. Tap the profile photo or the name of your existing Google account to view more options.
  4. Tap Add account.
  5. Tap Google.
  6. Tap OK button.
  7. Here, you'll be presented with two buttons to add your Google account, they are:
    • Existing: tap this button to add your existing Google account.
    • New: tap this button to create a new Google account.
  8. Next, you just need to follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
  9. Once done, the newly added Google account will be listed above the Add account option as you have seen in the step #4.

Having multiple Google accounts will be able to provide you some benefits, for instance you can use each of them for different purpose(personal/business/other purpose), you can also have a different settings on each account, etc.

Smart scroll is one of the smart features that you can find in Samsung Galaxy S5. When this feature is enabled, you can scroll pages while browsing a webpage or reading an email message simply by tilting your head or the device. This feature works by utilizing the front camera to detect your face and act on that information to automatically scroll the pages up or down.


How to Enable or disable the smart scroll feature?
You can turn on or off the smart scroll feature by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Personalisation section and then tap Accessibility .
  3. Tap Dexterity and interaction.
  4. Tap Smart scroll. If Smart scroll is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on.
  5. Under the Scroll by section, you'll be presented with the following options:
    • Tilting head: select this option if you want to be able to scroll pages by tilting your head backwards or forwards.
    • Tilting device: select this option if you want to be able to scroll pages by tilting the device backwards or forwards.
  6. Under the General section, you'll be presented with two options that can be used to customized the smart scroll feature. They are:
    • Speed: use this option to adjust the speed of scrolling pages while using the smart scroll feature.
    • Visual feedback display: enable this option if you want the device displaying a signal icon when your action is recognized.


How to use the smart scroll feature?
Before using the smart scroll feature, you have to make sure that the following conditions are fulfilled so that this feature will work well:
  • The device is held steady and upright
  • The device is in a well-lit environment so that it'll get enough light to be used by the front camera to detect your face.
  • The screen is not in direct light so that the front camera can easily detect your face.
  • The front camera is not being used by other apps.
  • The Multi window feature is not being enabled.
  • When you use this feature in Internet app, make sure the webpage is not being displayed in the reader mode.

Assuming that you have enabled the smart scroll feature and the conditions above are fulfilled, then you can use the smart scroll feature to scroll pages in the Internet app and the stock Email app. As the example, we'll try using the smart scroll while browsing a webpage in Internet app:
  1. Open Internet app.
  2. Open a webpage by entering the URL in the address bar and then tap Go.
  3. Wait until the webpage is fully loaded and you'll see the smart scroll icon is displayed on the status bar.
  4. If you enable the smart scroll feature by tilting head:
    • Look at the screen until this icon is displayed in the middle of the screen as a sign that your face has been recognized.
    • Tilting your head backwards to scroll up the webpage.
    • Tilting your head forwards to scroll down the webpage.
  5. If you enable the smart scroll by tilting the device:
    • Look at the screen until this icon is displayed in the middle of the screen as a sign that your face has been recognized.
    • Tilting the device forwards to scroll up the webpage.
    • Tilting the device backwards to scroll down the webpage.

If you have ever used this feature in the older Samsung Galaxy S series, you will probably notice that the smart scroll feature in Samsung Galaxy S5 has been improved because this feature now has a better face recognition. But, you have to remember that since this feature needs a lot of power to run, then use this feature to scroll pages for a long time will drain your battery quickly.

Smart pause is one of the smart features that can be found in Samsung Galaxy S5. When this feature is enabled, the video playback will be paused when you look away from the screen and it will be resumed when you look back to the screen. This feature works by utilizing the front camera to detect your face when you're watching a video and then act on that information to automatically pause/resume the video playback.


How to enable or disable the smart pause feature?
Generally, there are two methods that can be used to enable or disable the smart pause feature: from the settings menu and from the quick settings panel.


Method #1: From the settings menu
Use the following steps to turn on or off the smart pause feature from the settings menu:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Motion section and then tap Motions and gestures .
  3. Tap Mute/Pause. If Mute/Pause is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on.
  4. Depending on your current settings, tap Smart Pause to enable or disable it. When the checkbox next to this option is checked means the smart pause feature is enabled.


Method #2: From the quick settings panel
FYI, this method works if the Mute/Pause option in the settings menu is turned on. Use the following steps to quickly turn on or off the smart pause feature from the quick settings panel:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen using two fingers to open up the quick settings panel.
  2. Depending on your current settings, tap Smart pause button to enable or disable it. When the Smart pause button turns green means the smart pause feature is enabled.


How to use the smart pause feature?
Before using the smart pause feature, you have to make sure that the following conditions are fulfilled so that this feature will work well:
  • The device is held steady and upright.
  • The device is in a well-lit environment so that it'll get enough light to be used by the front camera to detect your face.
  • The screen is not in direct light so that the front camera can easily detect your face.
  • The front camera is not being used by other apps.
  • The Multi window feature is not being enabled.
  • The video is played in the stock Video player and not displayed in the pop-up video player or the pip view.


Assuming that you have enabled the smart pause feature and all conditions above have been fulfilled, then you can use this feature to easily pause the video you're watching. See the following steps as the example:
  1. Open the stock Video player app.
  2. Tap a video to play it.
  3. While you're watching the video, the smart pause icon will keep displayed on the status bar as a sign that the front camera is detecting your face.
  4. With the device is held steady and upright, move your head in any direction to pause the video playback, and look back to the screen to resume the video playback.

For the record, since the front camera will keep detecting your face when the video is being played, then use this feature to watch a long-duration video will drain your battery quickly.
