Method #2: From an app or screen where you can enter text
  1. Go to the screen or app where you can enter text, e.g., when composing a new text message in the Messages app.
  2. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap Select keyboard to view all enabled keyboards.
  3. Tap Samsung keyboard.
  4. The Samsung keyboard has been set as the default keyboard and you can use it to enter text.

If you're a low vision user or have difficulty when typing with the default Samsung keyboard size and colours, you can enable the high contrast keyboards feature to have your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge adjusts the size of the Samsung keyboard and change its colours to increase contrast between the keys and the background so you can see the keys with ease and type better.


How to enable or disable the high contrast keyboards feature in the Samsung keyboard?
As the example, we'll turn on or off this feature by using two different methods: from the Samsung keyboard settings and from the accessibility menu.

Method #1: From the Samsung keyboard settings
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.

Method #2: From the Accessibility menu
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to find Accessibility and then tap it.
    Alternatively, if you have enabled the direct access feature and selected the accessibility option, you can quickly access the accessibility menu by pressing the Home key three times quickly to open up the direct access menu and then tap Accessibility.
  3. Tap Vision.
  4. Scroll down the screen and then then tap the ON/OFF switch next to High contrast keyboard to enable or disable this option. When the switch turns , means the high contrast keyboards feature is enabled and your phone will adjust the size of the Samsung keyboard and change its colours to increase contrast between the keys and the background so you can type better.


Please note that when you enable the high contrast keyboards feature while the one-handed input feature is on, you'll be informed that the high contrast keyboards feature will be used instead of one-handed input keyboard. The option to adjust the keyboard size will automatically be disabled too.

When the predictive text feature in your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is enabled, you can use the text shortcuts feature to speed up the way you type with the Samsung qwerty keyboard by creating shortcuts for your frequently used sentences or phrases. When you're typing one of your shortcuts, the preset sentence assigned to the shortcut will be displayed in the predicted text bar so you can manually or automatically replace that shortcut with the assigned phrase with ease.


How to manage the text shortcuts feature in the Samsung keyboard?
Assuming that the predictive text feature is enabled, you can add or delete text shortcuts in the Samsung keyboard by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to the screen to find Language and input and then tap it.
  3. Tap Samsung keyboard.
    Alternatively, when you're entering text, you can quickly go to the Samsung keyboard settings by long tapping the key in the left side of the space bar and then tap .
  4. Scroll down the screen to the Customisation section and then tap Text shortcuts.
  5. To add a new text shortcut, do as follows:
    • Tap Add at the top right.
    • Type the desired text shortcut and expanded phrase in the provided fields. As the example, we'll set the phone to to suggest "inside-galaxy.blogspot.com" whenever "web" is typed. Once done, tap Add button to add the text shortcut.
  6. To delete an existing text shortcut, do as follows:
    • Tap Delete at the top right.
    • Select the required text shortcut you want to delete and then tap Delete at the top right to delete the selected text shortcut.


How to use the text shortcuts feature in the Samsung keyboard?
You can use the following steps as the example of using this feature with the Samsung qwerty keyboard:
  1. Go to the app or screen where you can enter text, e.g., when composing a new text message.
  2. Type one of your text shortcuts. The expanded phrase assigned to this text shortcut will be displayed in the predicted text bar at the top of the keyboard.
  3. If you only enable the predictive text feature, tap the expanded phrase in the predicted text bar to manually replace the text shortcut you're typing with the expanded phrase.
  4. If you also enable the auto replace feature, tap the space bar or a punctuation mark to automatically replace the text shortcut you're typing with the expanded phrase.
