Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Use Auto Delete Old Messages Feature in Messages App in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

If you have a lot of messages every day which make you have to spend some time regularly to delete the old ones to clean up the Messages app and free up some space, you can use the auto delete old messages feature in the Messages app in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge to save more time because this feature will let you automatically delete old text messages, multimedia messages and file sharing messages when the maximum limit has been exceeded.


How to use the auto delete old messages feature in the Messages app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap More settings.
  4. Slide the ON/OFF switch next to Delete old messages to the right to enable this option. When the switch turns green , means the auto delete old messages feature is enabled and your phone will auto delete the oldest messages when the text messages are over 1000, multimedia messages are over 100 and file sharing messages are over 5000.

If you often communicate with messages or receive a lot of messages every day, and have difficulty in finding messages from your important or favourite contacts, you can make it easier by adding those contacts to the priority senders list to have your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge places them at the top of the messages list in the Messages app so you can easily find them when needed.


How to add contacts to the priority senders list in the Messages app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then tap Add priority senders(this option will be available if you have not added any contact yet to the priority senders list).
  3. Select the required contacts you want to add to the priority senders list and then tap Done button. FYI, you can add up to 25 contacts to the priority senders list and it'd better if you place the most important contacts at the top 5 position for easier access.
  4. The selected contacts have been added to the list and their contacts' icons will be displayed at the top of the messages list in the Messages app so you can easily find them when needed, e.g., sending a message, find a message from your important contact to forward it to another contact, etc.
  5. When you have added a contact to the list, you can easily add other contacts to the list by tapping at the end of the priority senders list and then select the required contacts you want to add to the list. If you have more than five contacts in the list, you have to swipe the list to the right to access this icon.


How to edit priority senders list in the Messages app?
You can remove or rearrange contacts in the priority senders list by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Edit priority senders(this option will be available if you have added a contact or some to the priority senders list).
  3. To remove unwanted contacts from the list, tap in the required contact's icon you want to remove. While to change a contact's position in the list, drag the required contact's icon to the other position. Tap Done button to save the changes. .

The Messages app in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has the spam filter feature that will let you block unwanted messages, either those come from a specific phone number or those contain with a specific phrase. When a blocked message arrives, you won't be notified with any notification and it will automatically be redirected to the spam folder.


How to block unwanted messages in the Messages app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Spam filter.
  4. To block messages come from a specific phone number, you have to add the phone number to the spam numbers list by using these steps:
    • Tap Manage spam numbers.
    • To add a phone number to the spam numbers list, enter the required phone number in the Enter number field. Alternatively, you can tap Inbox to pick up a phone number of a message in your inbox or tap Contacts to pick up a phone number of a contact from your contacts list. Tap to add the entered phone number to the spam numbers list.
    • The phone number or contact has been added to the spam numbers list and all messages come from this contact will be blocked automatically.
  5. To block messages contain with a specific phrases, you have to add the phrase to the spam phrases list by using these steps:
    • Tap Manage spam phrases.
    • To add a phrase to the spam phrases list, enter the required phrase you want to block in the enter text field and then tap .
    • The phrase has been added to the spam phrases list and all messages contain with this phrase will be blocked automatically.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Change Message Tone in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

By default, your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge will play a sound when receiving messages to let you easily know that you have new ones. When needed, you can change the notification sound for incoming messages to the desired one, e.g., when you're bored with the current message tone, when you want to assign a different tone for a specific contact, etc.


How to change the message tone?
You can do so by using some methods. As the example, we'll change the message tone by using two different methods: from the Messages app and from the Contacts app.

Method #1: From the Messages app
You can use this method to change the message tone for incoming messages from all contacts except those you have assigned to the different message tone. Use the following steps to change the message tone from the Messages app:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Notifications. If Notifications is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on. The switch turns green when it's enabled.
  4. Tap Notification sound.
  5. Select the required message tone you want to use. Your phone will play the selected tone to give you a preview how it might sound when selected. FYI, if you select Default notification sound, your phone will use the default notification sound as the message tone.
  6. The message tone has been changed.

Method #2: From the Contacts app
You can use this method to assign different message tone for a specific contact. Use the following steps to change message tone from the Contacts app:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap the required contact you want to change its message tone.
  3. Tap Edit to edit the selected contact.
  4. Tap Add another field.
  5. Tap Message tone to add this field to the selected contact.
  6. Tap Message tone to assign a different message tone for the selected contact.
  7. Select the required message tone you want to use. Your phone will play the selected tone to give you a preview how it might sound when selected.
  8. Tap the Back key to return to the previous screen.
  9. Tap Save button to save the changes.
  10. The selected tone has been set as message tone for the selected contact.

The Messages app in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has a feature named quick responses that you can use when you want to be able to quickly respond to unanswered calls or incoming messages with preset messages.


How to manage quick responses the in Messages app?
You can add or delete quick responses in the Messages app by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Quick responses to see the list of quick responses.
  4. To add a new quick response, enter your own quick response in the Enter message field and then tap to add it to the list.
  5. To delete an existing quick response, tap next to the one you want to remove.


How to use quick responses feature in Messages app?
As the example, we'll using this feature to quickly respond an unanswered call with a preset message by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap Message on the missed call notification to reply the call with preset text message in the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Quick responses.
  3. Select the required quick response you want to use.
  4. Tap Send to send the message as a response.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Change Bubble and Background Style within Conversations in Messages App in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

If you're bored with the default bubble shape and background image when viewing a conversation in the Messages app in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, you can easily change it to the other one. You can even set your own image as the background image if you want to have more personal touch.


How to change bubble and background style within conversations in Messages app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Backgrounds and bubbles.
  4. To change the bubble style, select one of the bubble styles listed at the bottom of the screen you want to use. You'll get the preview when you tap each of them so you'll get an idea how it might look like when a bubble is selected.
  5. To change the background style to the other preloaded one, select one of the background styles listed at the bottom of the screen you want to use. You'll get the preview when you tap each of them so you'll get an idea how it might look like when a background image is selected.
  6. To set your own image as the background style, do as follows:
    • Tap at the bottom left corner of the screen.
    • Select the required image you want to use. 
    • If needed, you can adjust the size of the picture you want to use as the background style by dragging the edge of the white frame. 
    • If needed, you can also use another part of the picture as the background style by dragging the white frame to the desired part.
    • Tap Done button.
  7. The selected bubble and background style will be applied to all conversations in Messages app.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Send Scheduled Text Messages in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

Schedule message is a feature in the Messages app in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge that can be used to automatically send a message to the required contact at a specific time. You can use this feature when you need to send a text message to a contact in the future without you have to worry that you'll forget to send it at the right time. But, you have to remember that when your phone is off or the network is unstable, the scheduled message won't be sent.


How to send a scheduled text message?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap at the bottom right corner of the screen to compose a new text message.
  3. Enter the recipient's phone number in the Enter recipients field or tap to pick up a contact from your contacts list.
  4. Write your message in the Enter message field.
  5. Tap More at the top right and then select Schedule message.
  6. Set the date and time for the message to send, and then tap Done button.
  7. Tap Send button to set the message to be sent at the specified time. When you see the message in the conversation, it will be labelled with as a sign that it's a scheduled message.
  8. Before the scheduled message is sent, you can do some customisations:
    • Cancel the message: you can cancel the sending of the scheduled message by long tapping the scheduled message bubble and then select Cancel message followed by tapping OK button.
    • Send the message: you can send the scheduled message right now by long tapping the scheduled message bubble and then select Send now.
    • Edit the message: when there's something wrong in your scheduled message, you can edit it by long tapping the scheduled message bubble and then select Edit message. If you have finished editing the message, tap Send button to set the message to be sent at the specified time.
