Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable, Configure, and Use Edge Feeds Feature in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

There are some features in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that work by utilising the edge screen, one of which is the edge feeds feature. When this feature is enabled, you can easily view your selected feeds, e.g., real-time news of your favourite stock you care about, notifications from your favourite apps, etc., in the edge screen while the main screen is off.

How to enable and configure the edge feeds feature?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Edge screen and then tap it.
  3. Tap Edge feeds.
  4. If Edge feeds is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on. The switch turns blue when it's enabled.
  5. By default, there are 5 feeds available that you can select to be displayed on the edge screen:
    • Briefing feeds: enable this feed to display notifications from all apps on the edge screen. If needed, tap to select which apps you want to display its notifications in the edge screen. As the example, if you select Messages app, you can view unread text messages easily on the edge screen while the main screen is off.
    • Yahoo! news feed: enable this feed to display real-time news from Yahoo! webpage on the edge screen.
    • S Health feed: enable this feed to display your daily steps information on the edge screen.
    • Yahoo! Finance feed: enable this feed to display information about your favourite stocks on the edge screen. If needed, tap to add, delete, or rearrange your favourite stocks.
    • Yahoo! Sport feed: enable this feed to display information about your favourite teams on the edge screen. If needed, tap to add, delete, or rearrange your favourite teams.
  6. If needed, you can download more feeds from Galaxy apps store by tapping Download and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete this step.
  7. If needed, you can change the order of the enabled feeds by tapping Reorder and then drag one of the to the left or right.
  8. If needed, you can adjust the time when your phone should wait before turn off the edge screen automatically by tapping Edge feed timeout and then select from the following options: 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, or 10 minutes.
As the example, if you set the edge feed timeout to 2 minutes, your phone will automatically turn off the edge screen after 2 minutes of inactivity.

How to use the edge feeds feature?
You can easily access your selected feeds from the edge screen by using the following steps:
  1. While the main screen is off, swipe your finger along the edge screen and back in one quick motion to turn on the edge screen.
  2. Swipe the edge screen to the left or right to view the feeds you have enabled in advance.
  3. If needed, tap the required feed on the edge screen to open it in the appropriate app. As the example, if you tap the Yahoo! sport feed, your phone will automatically open the information about your favourite team from the Yahoo! webpage in the Internet app.
FYI, if you use a screen lock type with secure lock settings(PIN, pattern, password, fingerprints, or direction lock), you have to perform your screen lock before the selected feed can be opened in the appropriate app.
