Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Send SOS or Emergency Messages in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Send SOS messages is one of safety features available in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that will let you easily send quick alerts or emergency messages contain with your current location, pictures and audio recording of your surroundings to your emergency contacts so they can easily know when you're in an emergency situation.


How to enable the send SOS messages feature?
Before you can send the emergency messages with your phone, you have to turn on the send SOS messages feature by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Privacy and safety and then tap it.
  3. Tap Send SOS messages.
  4. If the Send SOS messages feature is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on.
  5. A pop up window appears on the screen to inform you that you need to add at least one emergency contact to turn on the Send SOS messages feature. Tap Add button to add a contact or more to your emergency contacts list.
  6. Select Create contact if you'd like to manually enter a contact's name and phone number to add it to the emergency contacts list, or select Select from contacts to pick up contacts from your contacts list to add them to the emergency contacts list. As the example, we'll select Select from contacts.
  7. Select the required contacts you want to add to your emergency contacts list and then tap Done button to add the selected contacts to the list.
    FYI, if needed, you can add or remove contacts in your emergency contacts list later to suit your need by using these steps:
    • While you're in the Send SOS messages menu, tap Send messages to.
    • To add more contacts to the list(up to 4 contacts), tap Add and then select Select from contacts. Select the required contacts and then tap Done button to add the selected contacts to the list.
    • To remove contacts from the list, tap Delete and then select the required contacts you want to remove. Tap Delete button to remove the selected contacts from the list.
  8. Tap the Back key to return to the Send SOS messages menu.
  9. When the Send SOS messages feature is enabled, your phone will automatically include your location information when you send emergency messages. If needed, you can also enable the following options:
    • Attach pictures: enable this option if you want to include pictures taken using the front and rear cameras when you send emergency messages.
    • Attach audio recording: enable this option if you want to include a 5-seconds audio recording of your surroundings when you send emergency messages.

How to send SOS messages to emergency contacts?
When you have enabled the send SOS messages feature, you can easily send SOS or emergency messages contain with your current location, pictures taken by the front and rear cameras, and audio recording of your surroundings to your emergency contacts by pressing the Power key quickly three times.
FYI, message and data rates may apply because your phone sends SOS messages as multimedia messages and needs to use Internet connection to obtain your location information.

If needed, you can perform a network settings reset to return Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other network settings back to its factory default settings. You can do this when you want to have new customizations of your network settings without you have to change settings one by one, to unpair all paired Bluetooth devices at once, to forget all Wi-Fi network connections at once, etc.


How to reset the network settings back to the factory default settings?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Backup and reset and then tap it.
  3. Scroll down the screen and then tap Reset network settings.
  4. You'll be informed that doing this action will reset all network settings, including those for Wi-Fi, mobile data and Bluetooth. If you'd like to continue, tap Reset settings button.
  5. Perform your current screen lock type. As the example, if you set the screen lock type to pattern, draw your screen lock pattern to continue the process.
  6. You'll be informed again that doing this action will reset all connections settings and it cannot be undone. If you'd like to continue, tap Reset settings button.
  7. All network settings have been reset to their defaults. Now, you can make new customizations for your network settings according to your need.

You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Backup and reset and then tap it.
  3. Scroll down the screen and then tap Reset settings.
  4. Here, you'll be informed that doing this action will reset your phone's settings back to its factory default settings and any customizations you have made to your device, such as your ringtone and do not disturb settings, will be discarded, but your personal data and the settings of downloaded apps will not be affected. If you fine with it, tap Reset settings button.
  5. A pop up window appears on the screen to confirm you again that doing this action will reset all your phone's settings back to their defaults and it cannot be recovered. Tap Reset to continue the process and restart your phone to apply the new settings.
  6. Perform your current screen lock type. As the example, if your screen lock type is set to pattern, draw your screen lock pattern to continue the process.
  7. Wait until your phone is finished restarting and applying the new settings.
  8. Your phone's settings have been reset to the factory default settings except the security, language, and account settings. Now, you can make new customizations of your phone's settings according to your need.
