You have to add an email account first to your phone before you can use the stock Email app to send or receive email messages.


How to add an email account to the stock Email app?
Assuming that you have an existing email account, then you can add this account to your phone by using two different methods: from the stock Email app and from the settings menu.


Method #1: From the stock Email app
You can add an email account directly from the stock Email app by using the following steps:
  1. Open the stock Email app.
  2. If it's the first time for you use this app, you'll be provided with the set up email screen directly. If you have added an email account previously, tap at the top right corner of the screen then tap Settings then tap Manage accounts then tap at the top of the screen to add another email account.
  3. Enter the email address (if yours is a Yahoo email account then it'll be like this: xxxxxxx@yahoo.com) and the password in the provided fields. FYI, you can check the box in the left side of the Show password option to help you make sure that you have entered the right password.
  4. Tap Next button.
  5. If needed, you can adjust the email account options available here according to your needs, e.g: period to sync, sync schedule, etc. Once done, tap Next button.
  6. If needed, you can change the email account name (it will be used as the email account name in the stock Email app) and your name for the email account (it will be displayed in outgoing email messages) in the provided fields.
  7. Tap Done button.
  8. The email account has been added and the stock Email apps will display inbox of this email account.


Method #2: From the settings menu
You can add an email account from the general settings menu by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap at the top of the screen to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the User and backup section and then tap Accounts .
  3. Tap Add account.
  4. Tap Email.
  5. Enter the email address (if yours is a Yahoo email account then it'll be like this: xxxxxxx@yahoo.com) and the password in the provided fields. FYI, you can check the box in the left side of the Show password option to help you make sure that you have entered the right password.
  6. Tap Next button.
  7. If needed, you can adjust the email account options available here according your needs, e.g: period to sync, sync schedule, etc. Once done, tap Next button.
  8. If needed, you can change the email account name (it will be used as the email account name in the stock Email app) and your name for the email account (it will be displayed in outgoing email messages) in the provided fields.Tap Done button.
  9. The email account has been successfully added.
  10. Now, you can open the stock Email app and you'll see this app displays inbox of the email account you have added.

As a note, the stock Email app has the ability to manage multiple email accounts therefore you can add more than one email account to this app by using two methods above.

Notification readout is a feature available in Samsung Galaxy S5 which will let your phone reads aloud notifications when you have incoming calls from favourite contacts, when you have text or email messages from priority senders, when S Planner event alarms sound as well as when the regular alarms sound. Given the function, this feature is designed to help you easily know the notifications even before you see the notifications in your phone.


How to use the notification readout feature?
To be able to use this feature, you need to enable the notification options within the notification readout menu by using the following steps:

    • Emails from priority senders: enable this option if you want your phone reads out senders' information when you're receiving new email messages from all contacts you have set as priority senders in the stock Email app.
    • S Planner event info: enable this option if you want your phone reads out event information when S Planner event alarms sound.
    • Alarm info: enable this option if you want your phone reads out alarm information when alarms sound.

Method #3: From the "Starred in Android" contacts group
FYI, Samsung Galaxy S5 has some default contacts groups, one of which is the Starred in Android contacts group. Adding contacts to this contacts group will automatically add them to the favourites list as well. See the following steps to do so:

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Fix Double Notifications When Receiving a New Text Message in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

By default, Samsung Galaxy S5 has been equipped with the stock Messaging app that can be used to send text messages or receive them. But, for some reason, you may want to install a third-party Messaging app in your phone, for instance when the stock Messaging app doesn't have a feature you're looking for. Since you finally have two Messaging apps: the stock Messaging app and a third-party Messaging app, it'll make you get double notifications when receiving a new text message.   1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Applications section and then tap Default applications .
  3. Tap Messages and then select the required third-party Messaging app you want to set as the default.
  4. Tap OK button.
  5. The selected third-party Messaging app has been set as the default app.
  6. From now on, you won't get any notification from the stock Messaging app and will only get notification from the third-party Messaging app you have set as the default when receiving a new text message.

How to disable notification of the stock Messaging app?
FYI, this step may make you miss important alerts and updates of the stock Messaging app. To disable the stock Messaging app notification, you can use one of the following methods:


Method #1: From the app menu
  1. In home screen, tap the Apps icon at the bottom right corner of the screen. It'll bring you to the apps menu.
  2. Find the Messages icon.
  3. Tap and hold the Messages icon and then drag it to the App info icon located at the top of the screen. It'll bring you to the App info screen of the stock Messaging app.
  4. Clear the checkbox in the left side of the Show notifications.
  5. Tap OK button.
  6. The notification of the stock Messaging app has been disabled.
  7. From now on, you won't get any notification from the stock Messaging app and will only get notification from the third-party Messaging app when receiving a new text message.


Method #2: From the settings menu
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Applications section and then tap Application manager .
  3. Swipe the screen from the right to the left to access the ALL screen. All installed apps will be displayed here.
  4. Scroll down to find Messages and then tap it.
  5. Clear the checkbox in the left side of the Show notifications.
  6. Tap OK button.
  7. The notification of the stock Messaging has been disabled.
  8. From now on, you won't get any notification from the stock Messaging app and will only get notification from the third-party Messaging app when receiving a new text message.

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Copy or Move Photos From One Album to Another in the Stock Gallery App in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

By default, all photos you have taken with the Camera app will be saved in an album named Camera in Gallery app. Since the photos in this album may have different categories, you'll probably need to organize them by copying or moving them to the appropriate album so that the photos with the same category will be placed in the same album, for instance you can copy or move all of your family photos you have taken with the Camera app to the album named Family. As a note, copying photos will duplicate the photos to the new album without deleting the original ones, while moving photos will move the photos to the new album and deleting the original ones.


How to copy or move photos from one album to another in the stock Gallery app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the stock Gallery app. By default, this app displays photos by album or folder where the photos are saved in.
  2. Tap an album.
  3. Tap or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then tap Select.
  4. Select the required photos you want to copy or move.
  5. Copying photos to another album:
    • Tap or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then select Copy to album.
    • Select the required album where you want to place the selected photos to. Or, if needed, you can create a new album by tapping Create album button and then enter the required album name and then select OK button.
    • The selected photos have been copied to the selected album.
  6. Moving photos to another album:
    • Tap or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then select Move to album.
    • Select the required album where you want to place the selected photos to. Or, if needed, you can create a new album by tapping Create album button and then enter the required album name and then select OK button.
    • The selected photos have been moved to the selected album.

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Reset App Preferences in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

If restarting the phone and performing clear app cache or clear app data couldn't fix error when using app, reset app preferences can be the next alternative way to fix the error since it'll handle other possibilities that may cause the error, such as: re-enable all disabled apps, re-enable all disabled apps notifications, clear all default apps, clear all background data restrictions for apps and clear all permission restrictions.


How to reset app preferences?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Applications section and then tap Application manager .
  3. In the Downloaded tab, tap or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then select Reset app preferences.
  4. Tap Reset apps button to continue the process.
  5. Once the process is completed, if needed you can restart your phone before retrying the app.
