Selective focus is one of shooting modes available in the Camera app in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that can be used to make a specific object in a photo you take with the rear camera be the centre of attention by applying the out of focus effect in the photo, in other words, your phone will focus on the selected object and blur the rest to make the object becomes stand out.

To get the best result when taking a photo with the selective focus mode, make sure to fill the following conditions:
  • Place the object you want to focus on between 10-50 cm from the phone.
  • Make sure the distance between the object you want to focus on and the background at least 3 times the distance between the object and your phone. As the example, if you place the object 30 cm from your phone, then the distance between your phone and the background at least 90 cm.
  • Avoid taking a photo with the background that cannot be distinguished from the object, such as plain-coloured walls or background with no pattern.
  • Make sure to take a photo in a well lit environment and no strong light behind the object so that the camera can easily distinguish between the object and the background.


How to take a photo using the selective focus mode in the Camera app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Camera app. By default, it uses the rear camera with the auto mode.
  2. Tap Mode to view all available shooting modes and then tap Selective focus to enable this mode.
  3. Point the camera to the object.
  4. Tap the object near your phone to focus on it and then tap to take a photo.
    Make sure to hold your phone as steady as possible while taking the photo with this shooting mode because your phone needs to take multiple photos to create a final photo with the out of focus effect.
  5. When your phone has been finished taking the photo, tap the preview thumbnail to view the photo in the Gallery app.
  6. Tap  to change the focus settings of the photo.
  7. Here, you're provided with the following options that you can select according to your need:
    • Near focus : select this option to make the object near the camera becomes stand out by applying the out of focus effect on the rest.
    • Far focus : select this option to make the object far away from the camera becomes stand out by applying the out of focus effect on the rest.
    • Pan focus : select this option to have your phone focuses on both the object near the camera and the object far away from the camera, in other words, selecting this option will remove the out of focus effect from the photo.
  8. If you're satisfied with the result and want to be able to edit or change the focus of this photo later, tap Save button. Or, you can save the changes as a different image by tapping Save as new button.

Gallery app in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has a feature called animate which will let you put some photos together and then turn them into a gif animated photo, in other words, this feature lets you create a beautiful photo animation from some static photos .


How to create an animated photo in the Gallery app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Gallery app.
  2. Tap the album where photos you want to turn into an animated photo are saved in.
  3. Select the required photos you want to create as an animated photo. 
  4. Tap More at the top right and then select Animate.
  5. You'll be brought to the screen where you can edit your animated photo. Here, you can do the following actions:
    • Remove a photo from the animated photo: tap in the required photo you want to remove.
    • Add more photos to the animated photo: tap and then select the required photos you want to add.
    • Rearrange photos within the animated photo: drag and drop photos to rearrange their order.
  6. By default, your phone will use default ratio for your animated photo. But, you can change it when needed by tapping Ratio and then select the required ratio you want to use. There are 6 options available:  (it's the default ratio and selected by default), 1:1 ,4:33:4, 16:9, 9:16.
  7. If needed, you can adjust the speed of your animated photo by tapping Speed and then select the required speed you want to use.
  8. You can review your animated photo before saving it by tapping  . If you're satisfied with the result, tap Save button to save your animated photo as .gif file.

When you want to share some great photos to your family and friend via social media but you have limited data and time, you can save yourself from this problem by using the photo collage feature in the Gallery app in your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge to put some photos together into a beautiful photo collage so you can share multiple photos at once.


How to create a photo collage in the Gallery app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Gallery app.
  2. Tap an album where photos you want to collage are saved in.
  3. Select the required photos you want to collage. 
  4. Tap More at the top right and then select Collage.
  5. If needed, you can add more photos to your collage by tapping Add and then select photos you want to add. Tap Done button to add the selected photos to the collage.
    You can add up to 6 photos in a single collage. If you have added 6 photos, the option to add more photos will be unavailable.
  6. If needed, you can change the aspect ratio of your collage by tapping Aspect ratio and then select 1:1(it's selected by default) or 9:16.
  7. If needed, you can change the layout of your collage by tapping Layout and then select the required layout you want to use.
    Alternatively, you can do so by tapping Shuffle to have your phone changes the layout randomly.
  8. If needed, you can change the border of your collage by tapping Border and then slide the adjustment bar next to to adjust the curvature of the corners of the selected cell(slide the bar to the right to get more rounded corner), or slide the adjustment bar next to to adjust the space between cells of your photo collage(slide the bar to the right to get a wider span).
  9. If needed, you can change the background of your collage by tapping Background and then select the required background you want to use.
  10. To rearrange photos within your photo collage without changing the layout, tap and hold a photo in a cell and then drag it to other cell.
  11. If needed, you can do some changes for each photo in your collage by tapping the required cell and then use available options:
    • : tap this option to change the photo in the selected cell with other photo.
    • : tap this option to delete the photo in the selected cell. This will give you a chance to add another photo to the cell.
    • : tap this option to apply an effect to the photo in the selected cell. You can select the required effect and then tap Apply button to apply your selection.
    • : tap this option to make some adjustments to the photo in the selected cell, e.g., crop the photo, rotate the photo, flip the photo horizontally or vertically, and change the photo ratio. Once done, tap Apply button to apply your selection.
  12. If you're satisfied with the result, tap Save button to save your collage.

If needed, you can set the flash settings of the rear camera to on to have your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge uses the built-in flash on the back side of the phone to provide you artificial light so you can get a better result when taking a picture in a dark area, in an environment where the light levels are too low, or where the object you want to focus with is darker than the background.

You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Camera app. By default, it uses the rear camera.
  2. Tap the Flash icon at the top of the screen to change the flash settings. The icon changes depend on the setting you're using:
    • : this icon will display when the flash is disabled.
    • : this icon will display when the flash is enabled.
    • : this icon will display when the flash is set to auto which means your phone will automatically enable the flash based on the shooting conditions.
    As the example, we'll set the flash settings to ON or always enable.
  3. Now, point the camera to the object.
  4. If needed, you can change the focus by tapping anywhere on the screen where the camera should focus.
  5. Tap Your phone will fire the flash to provide artificial light before taking a picture.
  6. Tap the preview thumbnail to view the photo in full screen view in the Gallery app.
