Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Enable or Disable LED Indicator in Android 5.0.1 Lollipop

LED indicator is a feature in Samsung Galaxy S4 that is designed to help you to easily know some conditions of your phone and notifications while your phone's screen is off. When this feature is enabled, your phone will light up or flash the LED indicator that is located at the top left corner above the screen when your phone is being or fully charged, when your battery level is low, when you have missed notifications(e.g: missed call, unread message, etc) and when you're recording voice while the screen is off.

  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notifications panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. Tap My device tab.
  3. Tap LED indicator.
  4. Here you'll be provided with the following options:
    • Charging: tap the checkbox next to this option to enable or disable this option. When this option is checked or enabled, your phone will light up the red LED when the device is connected to a charger and is charging while the screen is off. When the battery has been fully charged, the LED indicator will turn green.
    • Low battery: tap the checkbox next to this option to enable or disable this option. When this option is checked or enabled, your phone will blink the red LED when the battery level is low while the screen is off.
    • Notifications: tap the checkbox next to this option to enable or disable this option. When this option is checked or enabled, your phone will light up the blue LED per 10 seconds when you have missed notifications(e.g: missed call, unread text messages, unread email messages, other default app notifications, etc) while the screen is off.
    • Voice recording: tap the checkbox next to this option to enable or disable this option. When this option is checked or enabled, your phone will blink the blue LED per 1-2 seconds when voice recording is in progress while the screen is off. FYI, this option is only available when the LED indicator for Notifications option is enabled.

As a note, third-party apps usually have their own LED indicator settings. Thus, the LED indicator may light up or blink with other color when you receive notifications from third-party apps.

    • Swipe the provided static wallpapers at the bottom of the screen to the right or to the left and then tap the required static wallpaper.

Method #2: From the settings menu
You can set the same wallpaper for your home screen and lock screen at the same time from the settings menu by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notifications panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.

Method #1: From the home screen

    • If needed, you can change the rate at which the travel wallpaper changes by tapping Interval and then select Every 6 hours, Every 12 hours or Every 24 hours.
    • Tap Set wallpaper button.
    • Travel wallpaper will be set as your lock screen wallpaper.
  7. Set your own picture as lock screen wallpaper:
    • Tap From Gallery thumbnail at the bottom of the screen.
    • Select the required picture from the Gallery app.
    • If needed, you can adjust the area of the selected picture that will be used as wallpaper.
    • Tap Save button.
    • The selected picture will be set as lock screen wallpaper.


Method #2: From the settings menu
You can change your lock screen wallpaper from the settings menu by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notifications panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. Tap My device tab.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Wallpaper.
  5.  Select Lock screen from the provided options displayed at the top of the screen.

Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Change Home Screen Transition Effect in Android 5.0.1 Lollipop

By default, Samsung Galaxy S4 allows you to have multiple home screens. It's useful since you can use those home screens to place more favourite apps and widgets for quick access. If you have updated your Samsung Galaxy S4 to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, you'll have a new feature named transition effect that can be used to set your phone to play an effect when you're moving between home screens.


How to change home screen transition effect?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. While you're in home screen, tap the Menu key(it's located in the left side of the Home key) or long tap on a blank area in the home screen.
  2. Tap Home screen settings button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap Transition effect and then select from the following options:
    • None: select this option if you don't want your phone plays any effect when you're moving from one home screen to another, in other words, select this option if you want to turn off home screen transition effect.
    • Card stack: select this option if you want your phone plays the card stack effect when you're moving from one home screen to another.
    • 3D rotation: select this option if you want your phone plays the 3D rotation effect when you're moving from one home screen to another.
  4. Press the Home key to go back to your home screen.
  5. To see home screen transition effect, move between home screens by swiping home screen to the left or to the right.

Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Add a Widget to Home Screen in Android 5.0.1 Lollipop

A widget is a simple application that is often part of an app that is already installed in your phone. You can place or add a widget to your home screen for quick access to information or feature without you have to open the app that manages this information or feature. As the example, a music widget will let you play music and control the music playback without you have to open the stock Music Player app. If you have updated your Samsung Galaxy S4 to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, you'll notice that the way to access the widgets list is different than when your phone still runs with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or Android 4.4 Kitkat

    • Enter the widget name in the search field and then tap in the keyboard to start searching.
    • All widgets match with your search term will be displayed.
  4. Tap and hold the required widget and then drag it to an empty area in the home screen.
  5. Release to place the widget in the home screen. FYI, for some widgets, you may have to configure some settings before you can use the widgets. You just need to follow the on-screen instructions to complete the configuration.
  6. The selected widget has been added in the home screen.

Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Block Application Notifications in Android 5.0.1 Lollipop

For some reason, you'll probably want to block notifications of a certain app so that you won't be disturbed by notifications from this app. As the example, if you block Facebook app notifications, your phone won't show notifications on the status bar and play a sound or vibrate when receiving notifications from this app.


How to block notifications of an app?
Basically, there are some methods available that can be used to block app notifications, but as the example, we'll try to block notifications of the Facebook app by using two different methods: from the app manager menu and from the app notifications menu(you can use this method if your Samsung Galaxy S4 has been updated to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop).


Method #1: From the App manager menu
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notifications panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. Tap More tab.
  3. Tap Application manager.
  4. Swipe the screen from the right to the left to access the All tab. All installed apps will be displayed here.
  5. Scroll down the screen to find Facebook app, and then tap it.
  6. Clear the checkbox in the left side of the Show notifications option to disable it.
  7. A pop up window will appear to tell you that you may miss important alerts or updates if you disable app notifications. Tap OK button to continue.
  8. The notifications of the Facebook app has been disabled and all notifications from this app will be blocked.


Method #2: From the App notifications menu
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notifications panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. Tap My device tab.
  3. Tap Sounds and notifications.
  4. Scroll the screen to the very bottom.
  5. Tap Application notifications.
  6. Scroll down the screen to find Facebook, and then tap it.
  7. Slide the ON/OFF switch next to Block to the right to enable it. The switch turns green when it's enabled.
  8. The notifications of the Facebook app has been disabled and all notifications from this app will be blocked.
