For some reason, you may need to delete contacts that you have added to your contacts list, for instance when you want certain contact no longer listed in your contacts list or when you want to clean up your contacts list by deleting unused or unwanted contacts.


How to delete contacts?
You can delete a single contact or multiple contacts from Contacts app by using two different methods that you can see in the following steps:


Method #1
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then select Delete.
  3. Select the required contacts you want to delete.
  4. Tap Done button.
  5. Tap OK button to confirm.
  6. The selected contacts have been deleted.


Method #2
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Long tap the required contact you want to delete to select it.
  3. If needed, you can select another contacts by single tap the contacts.
  4. Tap .
  5. Tap OK button to confirm.
  6. The selected contacts have been deleted.

If you add a new contact to your contacts list and save it to the device storage or to your Samsung/Google account then you will be allowed to change the default contact's picture icon with a photo or another image. Adding a photo to a contact will help you to easily know the contact even without you have to read the name. The photo that you have added to a contact will also be displayed to represent the contact in other apps, for instance the photo contact will be displayed when the contact calls you or when the contact sends you a message.


How to add a photo to a contact?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. If needed, tap the Contacts tab.
  3. Tap the required contact's name whose the picture you want to change.
  4. Tap to edit the selected contact.
  5. Tap and then select the required photo source. To use a photo from Gallery app as the photo contact go to the step #6, to use a tagged picture as the photo contact go to the step #7, while to take a picture and use the result as the photo contact go to the step #8.
  6. Using a photo from Gallery app as the photo contact:
    • Tap Image.
    • Select the required photo you want to use as the photo contact.
    • If needed, you can adjust the area of the photo you want to use as the photo contact.
    • Tap Done button.
  7. Using a tagged picture as the photo contact:
    • Tap Tagged pictures.
    • Select the required tagged picture you want to use as the photo contact.
    • If needed, you can adjust the area of the photo you want to use as the photo contact.
    • Tap Done button.
  8. Taking a picture and use the result as the photo contact:
    • Tap Take picture.
    • Take a picture of a person or an object you want to use as the photo contact.
    • Tap OK button.
    • If needed, you can adjust the area of the photo you want to use as the photo contact.
    • Tap Done button.
  9.  Tap Save button to save the changes.
  10. The selected photo has been added to the selected contact as the photo contact.

Contacts app is a pre-installed app in Samsung Galaxy S5 that can be used to manage all of your contacts. How to add a new contact?
There are some methods that can be used to create a new contact. This time, we'll try adding a new contact by using four different methods: from the Contacts app, from the keypad, from the call logs and from the Messaging app.


Method #1: From the Contacts app
You can add a new contact directly from the Contacts app by using the following steps:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. If needed, tap the Contacts tab.
  3. Tap to add a new contact.
  4. By default, the new contact will be saved in the device storage. If needed, you can change the contact's storage by tapping and then select the required contact's storage. FYI, if you choose SIM card as the storage then you're only allowed to add a name and a single phone number for a single contact
  5. Enter the required name for the contact in the Name field.
  6. Enter the phone number for the contact in the Phone number field. 
  7. If you didn't choose SIM card as the contact's storage, you can add more phone numbers by tapping next to phone number and then enter the required phone number. Also, you can enter the additional contact's information (e,g: email, ringtone, etc) in the available information fields.
  8. Tap Save button.
  9. The new contact has been added to the contacts list.


Method #2: From the keypad
You can add a new contact from the keypad by using the following steps:
  1. Open Phone app.
  2. Tap the Keypad tab.
  3. Enter the phone number you want to add as a new contact.
  4. Tap + Add to contacts.
  5. Tap Create contact.
  6. By default, the new contact will be saved in the device storage. If needed, you can change the contact storage by tapping and then select the required contact's storage. FYI, if you choose SIM card as the storage then you're only allowed to add a name and a single phone number for a single contact
  7. Enter the required name for the contact in the Name field.
  8. If you didn't choose SIM card as the contact's storage, you can enter the additional contact's information (e,g: email, ringtone, etc) in the available information fields.
  9. Tap Save button.
  10. The new contact has been added to the contacts list.


Method #3: From the call log
This method lets you easily add the one that has called you or has been called by you as a new contact. See the following steps to do so:
  1. Open Phone app.
  2. Tap the Logs tab.
  3. Tap the contact's picture icon of the required call log whose the caller has not been added to the contacts list and then tap Create contact.
  4. By default, the new contact will be saved in the device storage. If needed, you can change the contact storage by tapping and then select the required contact's storage. FYI, if you choose SIM card as the storage then you're only allowed to add a name and a single phone number for a single contact
  5. Enter the required name for the contact in the Name field.
  6. If you didn't choose SIM card as the contact's storage, you can enter the additional contact's information (e,g: email, ringtone, etc) in the available information fields.
  7. Tap Save button.
  8. The new contact has been added to the contacts list.


Method #4: From the Messaging app
This method lets you easily add the sender of a message as a new contact. See the following steps to do so:
  1. Open the stock Messaging app.
  2. Tap the contact's picture icon of the required message whose the sender has not been added to the contacts list and then tap Create contact.
  3. By default, the new contact will be saved in the device storage. If needed, you can change the contact storage by tapping and then select the required contact's storage. FYI, if you choose SIM card as the storage then you're only allowed to add a name and a single phone number for a single contact
  4. Enter the required name for the contact in the Name field.
  5. If you didn't choose SIM card as the contact's storage, you can enter the additional contact's information (e,g: email, ringtone, etc) in the available information fields.
  6. Tap Save button.
  7. The new contact has been added to the contacts list.

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Keep Wi-Fi Stays On During Sleep in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

For some reason, you may need to keep connecting your phone to Wi-Fi network so that you can stay connected to the internet without having to be interrupted or disconnected each time the phone goes to sleep. If that so, you need to set the Wi-Fi sleep option to always connect to Wi-Fi network even when the screen is off.


How to keep Wi-Fi remains on during sleep?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Network connections section and then tap Wi-Fi .
  3. If the Wi-Fi is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on.
  4. Tap or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional option and then select Advanced.
  5. Tap Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep and then select Always.
  6. Now, unless you turn off the Wi-Fi connection manually, your phone will continue connecting to Wi-Fi network even when the screen is off.

As a note, install a third-party power saver app or battery saver app can disconnect the Wi-Fi connection automatically even when you have set your phone to always keep Wi-Fi on during sleep. Thus, uninstall the app should be able to fix this issue.

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Change the Device Name in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

The name listed in the device name option will be displayed in other devices to represent your device when you need to connect your phone to transfer files using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi direct, or when you need to connect your phone to share media file using the nearby devices feature. Since Samsung Galaxy S5 uses its name as the default device name which is too general then you may need to change the device name to a more personal or unique so that others can easily recognize your device from its name. Using a unique name can also prevent the other devices from accidentally sending files or share media files to the wrong device.


How to change the device name?
You can use the following steps to change the name for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi direct and the nearby devices at once:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to then System section and then tap About device .
  3. Tap Device name.
  4. Enter the required device name you want to use. It'd better if you use a unique name that will make others can easily recognize that it's your device.
  5. Tap OK button to save the changes.
  6. The device name has been changed and the name will be used for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi direct and nearby devices features.

As a note, you can also change the device name from the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi direct and nearby devices menus by utilizing the rename device option that can be found when you long press the recent apps key or tap the three dot icon at the top right of the screen.

You may need to know your battery status to make sure that it has enough power and won't run out so that you can continue using your phone. To help you know your battery level with ease, aside from providing you with the default battery icon, Samsung Galaxy S5 also provides you with a feature that will let you to display the battery percentage on the status bar so that you can easily and quickly know your battery level. I myself always keep this feature on since it's easier for me to know how much the battery left is by reading the percentage than seeing the battery icon.


How to display the battery percentage on the status bar?
There are two different methods that can be used to turn on the option to display battery percentage on the status bar: from the settings menu and from the S Finder.


Method #1: From the settings menu
You can enable the option to display the battery percentage from the general settings menu by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the System section and then tap Battery .
  3. Check the box next to Display battery percentage to enable it.
  4. The battery percentage will be displayed beside the battery icon on the status bar.


Method #2: From the S Finder
You can enable the option to display the battery percentage from the S Finder by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap the S Finder button.
  2. Key in "display battery percentage" in the search field and the tap to start searching.
  3. In the search result page under the Settings section, check the box next to Display battery percentage to enable it.
  4. The battery percentage will be displayed beside the battery icon on the status bar.

By default, the auto screen off during calls feature is enabled because it is designed to help you from accidentally touching something in the screen as well as to conserve more battery. This feature works by utilizing the proximity sensor which is located between the earpiece and the front camera at the top of the phone. When the sensor is blocked by an object (e.g: your ear or face) during a call then the screen will be turned off. However, if for any reason you want to stop the screen off during calls then you have to turn off the proximity sensor during calls by disabling the auto screen off during calls feature.


How to disable auto screen off during calls?
You can use two different methods to access the option to keep the screen stay on during calls: from the Phone app settings and from the general settings menu.


Method #1: From the Phone app settings
You can turn off the auto screen off during calls feature from the Phone app settings by using the following steps:
  1. Open Phone app.
  2. Tap the Menu key and then select Call settings.
  3. Clear the checkbox next to Turn off screen during calls to disable this option.
  4. The auto screen off during calls feature has been disabled.


Method #2: From the settings menu
You can turn off the auto screen off during calls feature from the general settings menu by using the following steps:
  1. On home screen, tap the Menu key and then select Settings to go to the general settings menu.
  2. Tap My device tab.
  3. Tap Call.
  4. Clear the checkbox next to Turn off screen during calls to disable this option.
  5. The auto screen off during calls feature has been disabled.
