Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable Vibration when Receiving New Text Messages in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

There are some conditions where you may need to set your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge to vibrate when receiving new text messages, as the example, when you're carrying your phone in your pocket while you're in a noisy environment where you may difficult to know the messages just by hearing the notification sound, or when you're in a place where you're prohibited to make any noise so feel the vibration can help you easily know when you have new text messages so you won't miss any important ones, etc.


How to enable vibration when receiving new text messages?
You can do so by using the following steps:

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Notifications.
    If notifications is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on.
  4. Slide the ON/OFF switch next to Vibrations to the right to enable it. The switch turns when it's enabled.
    FYI, this option won't be available when the sound profile in your phone is set to silent.
  5. Now, your phone will play a short pulse of vibration when receiving new text messages.

Do not disturb is a feature in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that can be used to mute all calls and alerts, unless you set them as allowed exceptions. You can turn on this feature manually at any time you need, such as during an important meeting, or turn on this feature automatically at scheduled times, such as during your sleep schedules.


How to turn on or off Do not disturb mode manually?
You can do so by using two different methods: from the settings menu and from the quick settings panel.

Method #1: From the settings menu
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Do not disturb and then tap it.
  3. Tap the ON/OFF switch next to Turn on now to enable or disable Do not disturb immediately. The switch turns blue and this icon is displayed on the status bar when the Do not disturb mode is enabled.

Method #2: From the quick settings panel
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen using two fingers to open up the quick settings panel.
  2. Tap Do not disturb button to enable or disable do not disturb mode immediately. The button turns blue and this icon is displayed on the status bar when do not disturb mode is enabled.


How to turn on or off Do not disturb mode automatically?
If needed, you can set your phone to automatically turn on or off Do not disturb mode at scheduled times by using the following steps:
  1. While you're in the Do not disturb menu, slide the ON/OFF switch next to Turn on as scheduled to the right to set a new schedule.
  2. Tap Days and then select the required days when the do not disturb should be turned on automatically. Tap the Back key to return to the previous menu.
  3. Tap Start time and then adjust the beginning time when the Do not disturb mode should be turned on automatically and then tap Done button.
  4. Tap End time and then adjust the end time when the Do not disturb mode should be turned off automatically and then tap Done button.
  5. The schedule of Do not disturb mode has been set. As the example, if you set days to every day, start time to 9:00 P.M and end time to 3:00 A.M, your phone will automatically enable Do not disturb mode to mute all calls and alerts except for your selected exceptions every day from 9 P.M to 3 A.M.


How to customize the settings of allowed exceptions for Do not disturb mode?
By default, all calls and alerts will be muted when Do not disturb mode is enabled. However, you can set the required notifications as exceptions so you can still receive them even when Do not disturb mode is enabled by using the following steps:
  1. While you're in the Do not disturb menu, tap Allow exceptions and then select the following options:
    • No exceptions: select this option to mute all calls and alerts while Do not disturb mode is turned on. This option is enabled by default.
    • Alarms only: select this option to allow only alarms to sound or vibrate while Do not disturb mode is turned on.
    • Custom: select this option to set custom exceptions that can sound or vibrate while Do not disturb mode is turned on.
  2. If you choose to set Allow exceptions to Custom, you'll be provided with these options:
    • Alarms: enable this option to allow preset alarms in your phone to sound or vibrate while Do not disturb mode is enabled.
    • Repeat callers: enable this option to allow your phone rings calls when they are received from the same phone number more than once within 15 minutes while Do not disturb mode is enabled.
    • Calls from: use this option to choose whose calls that can sound or vibrate while Do not disturb mode is turned on. You can set to allow calls from All, Contacts only, Favourite contacts only, or None. As the example, if you select Favourite contacts only, your phone will only allow notification sound or vibration when you receive calls from your favourite contacts while Do not disturb mode is enabled.
    • Messages from: use this option to choose whose messages that can sound or vibrate while Do not disturb mode is turned on. You can set to allow messages from All, Contacts only, Favourite contacts only, or None. As the example, if you select Contacts only, your phone will only allow notification sound or vibration when you receive calls from those listed in your contacts list while Do not disturb mode is enabled.
    • Event/task alerts: enable this option to allow notifications from S Planner and other calendar events to sound or vibrate while Do not disturb mode is enabled.
    • Reminders: enable this option to allow reminders from apps that support them to sound or vibrate while Do not disturb mode is enabled.
    • Priority app notifications: use this option to select which apps you want to set as priority interruptions to allow app notifications that can sound or vibrate while do not disturb mode is enabled. As the example, if you set Gmail app as priority interruptions then notifications from this app will be allowed while do not disturb mode is enabled.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable and Use Flash Notification Feature in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Flash notification is one of accessibility features available in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that will let you set your phone to flash the camera light(it's located next to the rear camera) when receiving notifications or when alarms sound. This feature is basically designed for those who are deaf or have hearing impairment because light notification is more noticeable for them than the sound notification.


How to enable or disable the flash notification feature?

  3. Tap Hearing.
  4. Tap the ON/OFF switch next to Flash notification to enable or disable this option. When the switch turns blue , means the flash notification feature is enabled and your phone will fire the camera light when you receive notifications or when alarms sound.


How to use the flash notification feature?
When this feature is enabled and you're receiving notifications, e.g., text messages, calls, etc., or when alarms sound, your phone will flash the camera light to notify you. If the easy mute feature is enabled, you can easily stop your phone from flashing by turning the device over.

When needed, you can set other pre-loaded tone available as ringtone when you're bored with the current one or want to use different one.


How to change ringtone?
You can set the required ringtone for incoming calls by using two different methods: from the settings menu and from a contact's detail page.

Method #1: From the settings menu
You can change the default ringtone for all contacts, except those that have been assigned to the different ringtones(see method #2), by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Sounds and vibration and then tap it.
  3. Tap Ringtone.
  4. Tap Ringtone to set the default ringtone for incoming calls.
  5. Select the required tone you want to use.
  6. The selected tone has been set as the default ringtone.

Method #2: From a contact's detail page
When needed, you can assign different ringtone for a specific contact, e.g., your important or favourite contacts, so you can easily know when you have calls from this contact by using the following steps:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap the required contact you want to change its ringtone.
  3. Tap Edit to edit the selected contact.
  4. Tap More to see more available fields for the selected contact.
  5. Scroll down the screen and then tap Ringtone. By default, all contacts use the default ringtone(see method #1).
  6. Select the required tone you want to use.
  7. Tap the Back key to return to the previous screen and then tap Save button to save the changes.
  8. The selected tone has been set as the ringtone for the selected contact.
