Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Remove App Shortcuts on Lock Screen in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

App shortcut on the lock screen is a feature that's designed to help you easily access your favourite apps even when the screen is locked. By default, it displays the Camera app at the bottom right corner and the Phone app at the bottom left corner of the lock screen. However, if you are tight with the security reason and your phone has been updated to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, you can remove one or both those app shortcuts so that there's no chance for unauthorised person to be able to access or use any app in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge when the screen is locked.


How to remove app shortcuts on the lock screen?
As the example, we'll remove both left and right shortcuts on the lock screen by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen until you find Lock screen and security and then tap it.
  3. Tap Info and app shortcuts.
  4. Tap App shortcuts.
  5. To remove app shortcut at the bottom left corner of the lock screen, tap Left shortcut and then slide the ON/OFF switch to the left to disable it. The switch turns gray when it's disabled.
  6. To remove app shortcut at the bottom right corner of the lock screen, tap Right shortcut and then slide the ON/OFF switch to the left to disable it. The switch turns gray when it's disabled.
  7. Press the Power key twice to go to the lock screen and see the changes. The app shortcuts at the bottom of the lock screen have been removed.

  4. Tap App shortcuts.
  5. To set the app you want to display at the bottom left corner of the lock screen, tap Left shortcut and then select the required app. As the example, we'll select Messages app.
  6. To set the app you want to display at the bottom right corner of the lock screen, tap Right shortcut and then select the required app. As the example, we'll select Music player app.
  7. Press the Power key twice to go to the lock screen and see the changes. The shortcut of the Messages app is displayed at the bottom left corner of the lock screen and the shortcut of the Music player app is displayed at the bottom right corner of the screen.

As a note, when you're using swipe as the screen lock type, your phone will play different sounds when locking and unlocking the screen, depending on the screen lock effect you're using. As the example, if you choose water droplet as the screen lock effect, your phone will play a water-drop-like sound when locking and unlocking the screen.

  6. Tap Trusted devices.
  7. Tap Add trusted device to start adding Bluetooth devices to the trusted devices list.
  8. Tap Bluetooth.
  9. Tap the Bluetooth device that is being connected with your phone. In this example, tap Galaxy S5.
  10. A pop up window appears on the screen to tell you that a trusted device can keep your phone unlocked when it's nearby, even if someone else is holding it. Tap Yes,add to continue adding the selected device to your trusted devices list.
  11. The selected device has been added to the trusted devices list.


How to use smart lock trusted devices feature?
As the example, we'll use this feature to make unlocking the screen easier while using Bluetooth tethering feature with Samsung Galaxy S5 which has been registered in advance by using the following steps:
  1. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap Bluetooth to enable Bluetooth and scan all available Bluetooth devices.
  2. Tap the required Bluetooth device you want to connect to. In this example, tap Galaxy S5 which has been added to the trusted devices list.
  3. As long as your phone is connected to your trusted device, your phone will keep unlocked.
  4. Press the Power key twice to go to the lock screen. At this time, you just need to swipe the screen to unlock it.
  5. If you'd like to lock the screen while your phone is connected to a trusted device, tap and hold at the bottom of the screen and then drag it out the circle to force your phone to lock securely.
