Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Set Your Own Music or Mp3 as Ringtone in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

If you want to have a different ringtone in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, you can set your own music or mp3 as your default/phone ringtone so your phone will play the music when you receive calls from all contacts or as caller ringtone so your phone will play the music when you receive call from a specific contact.


How to set your own music or mp3 as ringtone?
You can do so by using two different methods: from the settings menu and from the Contacts app.

Method #1: From the settings menu
You can use this method to set your own music or mp3 for incoming calls come from all contacts except those you have assigned to the different ringtone. Use the following steps to set your own music or mp3 as default/phone ringtone from the settings menu:
  1. While the screen is unlocked, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to the Device section and then tap Sounds and notifications.
  3. Tap Ringtones and sounds.
  4. Tap Ringtone.
  5. Scroll the screen to the very bottom and then tap + Add ringtone.
  6. Tap Sound picker to select song from the stock Music player app and then tap Just once or Always(select this option if you'd like to set this selection as the default).
  7. Tap the required song you want to set as default/phone ringtone. By default, your phone will only set the highlighted part as ringtone. However, if you'd like your phone plays the whole song, clear the checkbox in the left side of the Highlights only option. Tap Done button at the top right.
  8. The selected song has been set as your default/phone ringtone.

Method #2: From the Contacts app
You can use this method to set your own music or mp3 as ringtone for incoming calls from a specific contact. Use the following steps to set your own music or mp3 as caller ringtone from the Contacts app:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap the required contact you want to change its ringtone.
  3. Tap Edit at the top of the screen to edit the selected contact.
  4. Tap Ringtone.
  5. Scroll the screen to the very bottom and then tap + Add ringtone.
  6. Tap Sound picker to select song from the stock Music player app and then tap Just once or Always(select this option if you'd like to set this selection as the default).
  7. Tap the required song you want to set as caller ringtone. By default, your phone will only set the highlighted part as ringtone. If you'd like your phone plays the whole song, clear the checkbox in the left side of the Highlights only option. Tap Done button at the top right.
  8. Tap Save button to save the changes.
  9. The selected song has been set as ringtone for the selected contact.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Enable and Use the Easy Call and Easy Message Feature in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

While viewing your contacts list in the Contacts app, in the call logs, in the frequently contacted list and in the conversation list in the Messaging app in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, you can use the easy call and easy message feature so you can easily send a message or make a call to a contact simply by swiping left or right across the contact.


How to enable the easy call and easy message feature?
You can turn this feature on by using the following steps:
  1. Open Phone app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Slide the ON/OFF switch next to Swipe to call or send messages to the right to enable it. The switch turns green as a sign that the easy call and easy message feature is enabled.

How to use the easy call and easy message feature?
As the example, we'll try this feature while viewing contacts list in the Contacts app by using the following steps:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Send a message to a contact:
    • Swipe across a contact from the right to the left.
    • Type your own message and then tap Send button to send the message to the selected contact.
  3. Make a call to a contact:
    • Swipe across a contact from the left to the right.
    • Your phone will automatically call the selected contact.

  1. Open Phone app.

  3. Tap Add at the top right corner of the screen.
  4. Select the required contact you want to add to favorites.
  5. The selected contact has been added to the favorites.

Method #2: From the frequently contacted list
  1. Open Phone app.
  2. Tap Favorites tab.
  3. If needed, scroll down the screen to the Frequently contacted section and then tap the required contact you want to add to favorites.
  4. Tap to add the selected contact to favorites. The icon turns yellow as a sign that the selected contact has been added to favorites.

Method #3: From a contact's detail page
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap the required contact you want to add to favorites.
  3. Tap to add the selected contact to favorites. The icon turns yellow as a sign that the selected contact has been added to favorites.

When needed, you can separate one or more entries within a merged contact so they will be displayed as a separated contact, e.g: when you have accidentally merged a wrong contact, when you want to have Contacts app keeps displaying each entry in a merged contact as a separated contact, etc.


How to separate a merged contact?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap the required contact you want to separate.
  3. Tap More at the top right and then tap Unlink contacts(this option is available when the selected contact is a merged contact).
  4. Tap next to the required entries you want to separate.
  5. The selected entries will be separated.

Since your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge lets you retrieve contacts from various sources, you might have the same contacts saved in the different storage location, e.g: a contact contains with phone number saved in the device storage and the same contact contains with email address saved in your Google account. In this case, you can set Contacts app to merge those contacts so they will be displayed as a single contact. It will help you to stop Contacts app from displaying duplicate contacts and manage your contacts with more easily.


How to merge contacts?
You can do so by using several methods. As the example, we'll merge contacts by using two different methods: from the contacts list and from a contact's detail screen.


Method #1: From the contacts list
This method lets you merge contacts for multiple contacts at once. But, it will only work to merge contacts who have the same name. You can use the following steps to merge contacts from the contacts list:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Merge contacts.
  3. Here, your phone will display all contacts that can be merged and group them by name.
  4. Tap the required contacts you want to merge, or tap All at the top left corner of the screen to select all contacts.
  5. Tap Merge at the top right.
  6. The selected contacts will be merged.


Method #2: From a contact's detail screen
This method lets you merge a contact with any other contacts you like, even if they don't have the same name. You can use the following steps to merge contacts from a contact's detail screen:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap the required contact you want to merge.
  3. Tap More at the top right and then select Link contacts.
  4. Here, your phone will give you some suggested contacts that can be merged. Tap one or some of suggested contacts, or you can select any other contacts you like to merge.
  5. Tap Link at the top right.
  6. The selected contacts will be merged.

The stock Contacts app in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge lets you to retrieve contacts from various sources, e.g: device storage, SIM card, Google account, etc. By default, this app will show all contacts from all available sources. However, you can set this app to show contacts from a specific source only or according to your own selection.


How to select which contacts to display?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Contacts to display.
  4. Now, you'll be provided with the following options(it may be displayed differently depending on accounts that you have added to the stock Contacts app):
    • All contacts: select this option if you'd like to show all contacts from all available sources. This option is enabled by default.
    • Device: select this option if you'd like to show contacts saved in the device storage only.
    • SIM card: select this option if you'd like to show contacts saved in the SIM card only.
    • Your Samsung account: select this option if you'd like to show contacts saved in your Samsung account only. This option is available if you have added a Samsung account to your phone.
    • Your Google account: select this option if you'd like to show contacts saved in the selected Google account only. This option is available if you have added a Google account to your phone.
    • Customized list: select this option if you'd like to manually select which contacts you want to display in your contacts list. Tap to set your own selection.
  5. Tap the Back key to return to your contacts list screen.

If you have added a Google account to your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, you can move your contacts saved in the device storage to that account as an alternative way to backup your contacts. Next time, when you need to retrieve your contacts back to your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge or other Android phones, you can do so simply by adding the Google account to the phone.


How to move contacts from phone to Google account?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Move device contacts to.
  4. Tap Google account.
  5. All contacts saved in the device storage will be moved to your Google account.

When needed, you can easily export some or all contacts from phone to SIM card in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, as the example: when you need to backup some important contacts saved in the device storage by copying them to your SIM card, when you want to copy contacts to other devices by using your SIM card, etc. But, you have to remember that since a SIM card only saves a name and a phone number in a single contact, other contact information may be lost when you export it to the SIM card.


How to export contacts from phone to SIM card?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Import/Export contacts.
  4. Tap Export button.
  5. Tap SIM card.
  6. A pop up window will appear to inform you that the information in the name and phone number fields will be copied but some contact information may be lost when you export contacts to the SIM card. Tap Export button to continue exporting contacts.
  7. Select the required contacts you want to export to the SIM card and then tap Done button.
  8. A pop up window will appear to re-inform you that some contact information may be lost when you export contacts to the SIM card. Tap OK button to continue exporting contacts.
  9. The selected contacts will be copied from the device storage to the SIM card.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Export Contacts List as .VCF File in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

There are some reason you might want to export your contacts list in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge as .vcf file, e.g: when you want to backup your contacts list so when you lost them you can easily retrieve them back to your phone by importing that .vcf file, when you want to transfer your contacts list to other devices, etc.


How to export contacts list as .vcf file?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Import/Export contacts.
  4. Tap Export button.
  5. Tap Device storage to save .vcf file to your phone's storage.
  6. All contacts saved in the device storage will be exported to the internal storage of your phone as .vcf file.

There are some reason you might need to import .vcf files to your contacts list in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, e.g: when you receive .vcf files from other devices and want to add contacts within these files to your contacts list, when you had exported your own contacts list to a .vcf file and want to import your contacts back to your phone, etc. 


How to import .vcf files to the contacts list?
As the example, we'll try importing some .vcf files to the contacts list by using the following steps:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap More at the top right corner of the screen and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Import/Export contacts.
  4. Tap Import button.
  5. Tap the required storage location you want to use to save the contacts within .vcf files. As the example, if you select Device then the contacts within .vcf files will be saved to your phone's memory.
  6. All .vcf files in your phone will be displayed here.
  7. Now, select the required .vcf files you want to import and then tap Done button to start importing the selected .vcf files to your contacts list.
  8. The selected .vcf files will be imported to your contacts list.

There are various ways that you can do to retrieve contacts to your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, from syncing contacts of your existing account up to transferring contacts from other devices. However, there are some reason you might need to manually add a contact to your phone, e.g: when you receive call or message from someone and want to add the number to your contacts list, when you meet someone and he asks you to save his number, etc.


How to add a new contact?
You can add a new contact by using several ways. As the example, we'll do so by using three different methods: from the contacts list, from the keypad and from the logs.

Method #1: From the contacts list
You can add a new contact while viewing your contacts list by using the following steps:
  1. Open Contacts app.
  2. Tap at the bottom right corner of the screen to create a new contact.
  3. By default, the storage location for your contacts is the phone memory. If you'd like to change it, tap the drop down box at the top of the screen and then select the required storage location, e.g: select your Google account if you'd like to save the contact to your Google account.
  4. If needed, you can add a photo to the contact by tapping . Tap to take a photo or tap to pick up a photo from the Gallery app.
  5. Enter the contact's name in the Name field.
  6. Enter the contact's phone number in the Phone number field. Tap if you'd like to add more phone numbers.
  7. Tap Save button to save the contact to the selected storage.

Method #2: From the keypad
You can add a phone number to your contacts list while you're in the dialing screen by using the following steps:
  1. Open Phone app.
  2. If needed, tap at the bottom right corner of the screen to open up the keypad.
  3. Type the phone number.
  4. Tap + Add to Contacts.
  5. Tap Create contact.
  6. By default, the storage location for your contacts is the phone memory. If you'd like to change it, tap the drop down box at the top of the screen and then select the required storage location, e.g: select your Google account if you'd like to save the contact to your Google account.
  7. If needed, you can add a photo to the contact by tapping . Tap to take a photo or tap to pick up a photo from Gallery app.
  8. Enter the contact's name in the Name field.
  9. Tap Save button to save the contact to the selected storage.

Method #3: From the logs
You can add a phone number of a received call or message to the contacts list by using the following steps:
  1. Open Phone app.
  2. Tap Log tab.
  3. Tap a phone number of a received call or message you want to save.
  4. Tap Create contact.
  5. By default, the storage location for your contacts is the phone memory. If you'd like to change it, tap the drop down box at the top of the screen and then select the required storage location, e.g: select your Google account if you'd like to save the contact to your Google account.
  6. If needed, you can add a photo to the contact by tapping . Tap to take a photo or tap to pick up a photo from Gallery app.
  7. Enter the contact's name in the Name field.
  8. Tap Save button to save the contact to the selected storage.

As a note, if you set SIM card as the storage location for a contact, you're only allowed to add a single name and phone number for the contact.
