Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Display New Text Messages as Pop-ups in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

Pop-up display is a new feature that can be found in the stock Messaging app in Samsung Galaxy S5. Basically, this feature has the same function with the text message preview since these two features will let you easily know who's the sender and what's the content of the message without having to open the Messaging app first. The difference is the text message preview will display a short preview of a message on the lock screen and the status bar, while the pop up display will display the whole message on pop up window that will keep displayed at the top on any screen(when the screen is not locked).

How to enable or disable text message pop-up display?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open Messaging app.
  2. Tap or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then select Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Notifications and then tap it.
  4. If Notifications is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to enable it.
  5. Depending on your current settings, tap the Pop-up display to enable or disable it. When the checkbox next to this option is checked means the pop-up display is enabled and a new text message will be displayed as pop-up.

How to use text message pop-up display?
When this feature is enabled, you can use it to read/reply the message or call the sender with ease. See the following steps as the example how to use this feature:
  1. When a new text message is received, you'll see the message is displayed on pop up window at the top of the screen. FYI, when you receive multiple text messages, the pop-up display will display the latest message.
  2. Read the message.
When you receive a long text message, you can read the whole message by scrolling up or down the message on the pop-up display.
  3. Call the sender.
If necessary, you can quickly call the sender of the message by tapping
  4. Reply the message.
You can easily reply the message from the pop-up display by using the following steps:
    • Tap and you'll see the enter-message field is displayed below the message on the pop-up display that can be used to write your message.
    • Write your message.
    • Tap to send the message.
  5. View the message in the Messaging app.
If necessary, you can view the whole message with more conveniently in the Messaging app by tapping .
  6. Close the pop-up display.
If you think that you don't need to take any action, you can close the pop-up display manually by tapping located at the top right corner of the pop-up display.

FYI, since the message pop-up display will remain be displayed on top regardless what the screen/app that is being opened and it won't be closed unless you take an action(view/reply the message or call the sender) or close it manually, then this feature will be able to intensely remind you if you have a new text message and force you to pay attention on it or take an action if needed.

    2. Hi Sameen Amjad and Jennifer Martin,
      Thanks for coming.
FYI, I have tried duplicating your issue to find the solution, but had no luck. If you remember what have you done before encountering this issue, e.g: change the settings, install any third-party app, etc then it'll be helpful to find the right solution to solve your issue.
However, you can try performing clear cache and data for your Messaging app and then see whether it helps.
