Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Enable and Configure Assistant Menu in Android 5.0.1 Lollipop

Basically, the assistant menu feature can be found in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat. But, you can still find this feature when you have updated your Samsung Galaxy S5 to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. Just to remind us, assistant menu is a feature designed to assist those with dexterity issues or those who want to easily navigate their phones using one hand by simplifying access to certain frequently used features or actions using the assistant menu icon. The icon will stay on top so that the users can easily access it.

How to enable the assistant menu feature?
You can turn on this feature by using three different methods: from the settings menu, from the S Finder and from the direct access menu.

Method #1: From the settings menu
You can enable assistant menu from the general settings menu by using the following steps:

On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notifications panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Personalisation section and then tap Accessibility .
Tap Dexterity and interaction.
Tap Assistant menu.
Slide the ON/OFF switch to the right to enable this feature. The switch turns green when this feature is enabled and the assistant menu icon will be displayed on your screen.

Method #2: From the S Finder
You can utilize the S Finder app to quickly go to the assistant menu feature and then enable it by using the following steps:

On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notifications panel and then tap S Finder button.
Type "assistant menu" in the search field and then tap at the virtual keyboard to start searching.
In the search result list, tap Assistant menu to quickly go to the assistant menu feature.
Slide the ON/OFF switch to the right to enable this feature. The switch turns green when this feature is enabled and the assistant menu icon will be displayed on your screen.

Method #3: From the direct access menu
If you have enabled the direct access, you can quickly go to the assistant menu feature and then enable it from the direct access menu by using the following steps:

On any screen, press the Home key three times to open up the direct access menu.
Tap Accessibility.
Tap Dexterity and interaction.
Tap Assistant menu.
Slide the ON/OFF switch to the right to enable this feature. The switch turns green when this feature is enabled and the assistant menu icon will be displayed on your screen.

How to configure the assistant menu feature?
Assuming that this feature is enabled, there are some options within this feature that can be customized according to your need:

Change the assistant menu icon position:

Tap the assistant menu icon and then tap Settings .
Tap Dominant hand and then select Right if you'd like to place the icon on the right side of the screen, or select Left if you'd like to place the icon on the left side of the screen.
The icon will be displayed in the selected position.

Customize menus within the assistant menu icon:

Tap the assistant menu icon and then tap Settings .
Tap Edit.
To remove the existing menu from the assistant menu icon, tap at the required menu you want to remove.
To add the available menu to the assistant menu icon, tap at the required menu you want to add.
To reorder menus within the assistant menu icon, drag and drop the menu to the desired position.
To reset the menus within the assistant menu icon back to the default, tap at the top right and then select Reset. Tap Reset button to confirm.

Enable the assistant plus feature:
You can enable this option so that your phone will display contextual menu options for the selected applications by using these steps:

Tap the assistant menu icon and then tap Settings.
Tap Assistant plus.
Slide the ON/OFF switch to the right to enable this menu. The switch turns green when it's enabled.
Select the required apps that you want to display its contextual menu options in the assistant menu icon. There are 7 apps available: Camera, Email, Gallery, Internet, Messages, Phone/Contacts and Settings.
If you have selected an app(e.g: Internet app), when you open this app, you'll see some contextual menu options are displayed in the assistant menu icon, e.g: Enter URL, Tab manager and New Tab.

Change the touch pad size:

Tap the assistant menu icon and then tap Settings .
Tap Touchpad size and then select Small, Medium or Large.
From now on, the touchpad will be displayed with the selected size when you're using the cursor tool in the assistant menu.

Change the cursor size:

Tap the assistant menu icon and then tap Settings .
Tap Cursor size and then select Medium or Large.
From now on, the cursor will be displayed with the selected size when you're using the cursor tool in the assistant menu.

Change the cursor speed:

Tap the assistant menu icon and then tap Settings .
Tap Cursor speed and then select Slow, Normal or Fast.
From now on, the cursor will use the selected speed when you're using the cursor tool in the assistant menu.

Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Delete Videos from a Windows Computer via Windows Explorer App

When your phone is connected to your Windows PC and being explored using Windows Explorer app, you can easily delete videos stored in your phone from this app to remove unwanted videos from your phone or to free up some space in your phone. If needed, you can backup your videos by transferring videos to your PC via Windows Explorer app before permanently deleting them from your phone.

Connect your phone to the computer using the provided USB cable by plugging the micro USB connector to the micro USB port in your device (it's located under the Home key) and the USB connector to a USB port on your PC. If it's the first time for you to connect your phone with the PC, your PC may need a few minutes to install the driver. By default, your phone will use MTP as the connection mode.
When the phone has been successfully connected to your PC and is ready to use, a pop up window will appear on your computer. Click Open device to view files to automatically explore your phone in the Windows Explorer.
Navigate to the DCIM\Camera folder in the internal storage of your phone by using these steps:

In the Windows Explorer app, click the Phone folder to explore the internal storage of your phone.
Click the DCIM folder.
Click the Camera folder. FYI, it's the default folder used to save all videos recorded by the stock Camera app.

Since the DCIM\Camera folder contains with photos and videos, you can make it easier by sorting the files by its type. You can do so by clicking the right-mouse button and then hover the cursor above the Sort by and then select Type. Now, select all videos (those with .mp4 file extensions) within this folder.
Delete the selected videos by pressing the Delete key in your PC's keyboard, or by clicking the right-mouse button and then select Delete.
Click the Yes button to confirm deleting videos.
All videos within DCIM\Camera folder in the internal storage of your phone will be deleted permanently.
Once done, close the Windows Explorer app and then you can disconnect your phone from the PC by unplugging the USB cable from your phone and your PC.

Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Transfer Videos to a Windows Computer via Windows Explorer App

Transferring videos stored in your phone to other storage or devices periodically to backup them is a preventive thing that can be done to avoid you lose them since you can use the backup to retrieve videos when you accidentally lose them from your phone for whatever reason. If you have a Windows computer, you can transfer the videos from your phone to your PC by using the Windows Explorer app. You can use this way if you don't like transferring multimedia files from your phone to PC by using Samsung Kies 3 app.

Click the folder you have just created to open it.

Copy the required videos in your Windows PC by using the following steps:

Open a new Windows Explorer app and then navigate to the folder in your Windows computer where the videos you want to add to your phone are placed in.
Select the required videos and then copy them by using the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+C, or click the right-mouse button and then select Copy.

Paste copied videos into your phone by using the following steps:

Open the Windows Explorer app that you use to create a new folder in the SD card in your phone (see the step #3).
To paste the copied videos, use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+V, or click the right-mouse button and then select Paste.
The selected videos will be copied from your PC to your phone. Wait until the process is completed.

Once done, close all Windows Explorer apps and you can disconnect your phone from the PC by unplugging the USB cable from your phone and your PC.
Now, you can enjoy watching the videos that you have just added in your Samsung Galaxy S4 by using the stock Video Player app or any third-party Video Player app.

Click the By folder tab to group your videos by the folder.
Click the box in the left side of the INTERNAL:\DCIM\Camera to select all videos stored in the DCIM\Camera folder in the internal storage of Samsung Galaxy S4, and then click at the top of the Kies screen.
Click the Delete button to confirm deleting the selected videos.
All videos in the DCIM\Camera folder in the internal storage of your phone will be deleted permanently.
Once done, you can disconnect your phone from Samsung Kies 3 app by clicking in the right side of the device name in the Kies screen. Then, you can disconnect your phone from the PC by unplugging the USB cable from your phone and your PC.

Tap at the top of the Kies screen and then select Internal memory if you'd like to add the videos to the DCIM\Camera folder in the internal storage of your phone, or select External memory if you'd like to add the videos to the DCIM\Camera folder in the SD card.
Navigate to the folder in your Windows PC where the videos you want to add to the phone are placed in.
Select the required videos you want to add to your phone and then Click the Open button.
The selected videos will be added to your phone.
Once the process is completed, you can disconnect your phone from Samsung Kies 3 app by clicking in the right side of the device name in the Kies screen. Then, you can disconnect your phone from the PC by unplugging the USB cable from your phone and your PC.
Now, you can watch the videos you have added in your phone by using the stock Video Player app or other third-party Video Player apps.

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Fix Still Get Message Notifications when Do Not Disturb Mode is Enabled and Messages is not Set as Exceptions in Android 5.0.1 Lollipop

A couple weeks back, an insider asked me through her comment about why her phone still played notifications when receiving messages whereas she had turned on the Do not disturb mode and didn't set messages as exceptions. After some further investigation, it turned out that the stock Messaging app notification in her phone has been accidentally set as priority. Thus, if you're also experience this problem, you have to turn off priority settings for the stock Messaging app notification in your Samsung Galaxy S5 so that your phone will mute notifications(sound and vibration) when you receive messages when the Do not disturb is enabled and messages is not set as exceptions.

How to turn off priority settings for the stock Messaging app notification?
You can do so by using the following steps:

On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notifications panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Sound and display section and then tap Sounds and notifications .
Scroll the screen to the very bottom, and then tap App notifications.
Scroll down to find Messages, and then tap it.
Slide the ON/OFF switch next to Priority to the left to turn this option off. The switch turns gray when it's disabled.
From now on, assuming that the Do not disturb mode is enabled and messages is not set as exceptions, your phone will mute notification(sound and vibration) when a new message arrives.

Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Delete Music Files in a Windows Computer via Windows Explorer App

If you can't delete your music files directly from your Samsung Galaxy S4, e.g: when the screen is broken but the phone can still be turned on, then alternatively you can connect your phone with your Windows PC and then delete the music files using Windows Explorer app. It can also be an alternative way if you have not had the Samsung Kies 3 app in your PC yet. Copy the required music files in your PC via Windows Explorer app by using the following steps:

Open a new Windows Explorer app and then navigate to the folder in your PC where the music files you want to add to your phone are placed in.
Select the required music files and then copy them by using the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+C, or click the right-mouse button and then select Copy.

Paste copied music files to your phone by using the following steps:

Open the Windows Explorer app that you use to explorer the Music folder in the SD card in your phone (see the step #3).
Paste the copied music files by using the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+V, or click the right-mouse button and then select Paste.
The selected music files will be copied from your PC to your phone.
Wait until the process is completed.

Once done, close all Windows Explorer apps and you can disconnect your phone from the PC by unplugging the USB cable from your phone and your PC.
Now, you can enjoy listening to the music that you have just added in your Samsung Galaxy S4 by using the stock Music Player app or any third-party Music Player app that you have installed in your phone.
