  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.

How to change the message tone?
As the example, we'll do so by using two different methods: from the Messages app and from the Contacts app.

Method #1: From the Messages app
You can use the following steps to change the notification sound when receiving text messages from all contacts except those who have been assigned to the different message tone:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Notifications.
    If Notifications is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on.
  4. Tap Notification sound.
  5. Select the required sound you want to use.
  6. The selected tone has been set as the message tone.


Method #2: From the Contacts app
You can use the following steps to assign the different tone for a specific contact so your phone will play the selected sound when receiving text messages from the selected contact:
  1. Open the Contacts app.
  2. Tap the required contact whose message tone you want to change.
  3. Tap Edit to edit the selected contact.
  4. Tap More to access more options available of the selected contact.
  5. Scroll the screen to the very bottom and then select Message tone.
  6. Select the required sound you want to assign for the selected contact.
  7. Tap the Back key to return to the previous screen.
  8. Tap Save button to save the changes.
  9. The selected sound has been set as the message tone for the selected contact.

When needed, you can do some customisations in the Messages app in your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, one of which is changing the background image within conversations to another preloaded image if you're bored with the current one or to your own image for more personal touch.


How to change background image within conversations in the Messages app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Backgrounds.
  4. To use your own picture as the background image within conversations, do as follows:
    • Tap the thumbnail with at the bottom left corner of the screen.
    • Select the required image you want to use.
    • If needed, you can adjust the size of the selected picture you want to use as the background image by dragging the edge of the white frame . You can also use another part of the selected picture as the background image by dragging the white frame to the desired part.
    • Tap Done button to save the changes.
    • The selected image has been set as the background image within all conversations in the Messages app.
  5. To use other pre-loaded image as the background image within conversations, do as follows:
    • Swipe the bottom of the screen that displays the background image thumbnails to the left to view available pre-loaded images.
    • Tap the required thumbnail of a pre-loaded image you want to use. You'll get the preview when you tap each of them so you'll get an idea how it might look like when a background image is selected.
    • The selected image has been set as the background image within all conversations in the Messages app.
