Samsung Galaxy S8: How to Use Fingerprints when Purchasing Items on Samsung Services in Android 7.0 Nougat

When you have registered fingerprints in your Samsung Galaxy S8, you can use it as an alternative way to confirm your identity when purchasing items on Samsung services instead of your Samsung account password. It's simple and easy because you just need to place a finger that you have registered before on the sensor. No more entering wrong password issue especially if yours is a complicated one.


How to use fingerprints when purchasing items on Samsung services?
Assuming that you have an Internet connection, you can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Tap Lock screen and security.
  3. Tap Fingerprint scanner.
  4. Perform your current screen lock to confirm your identity. As the example, if your current screen lock type is set to pattern, draw your pattern to confirm your identity.
  5. Tap Samsung account.
  6. Enter your Samsung account password and then tap Confirm button.
    If you have entered the right password, the ON/OFF switch next to the Samsung account option will turn blue as a sign that it's enabled.
  7. Now, you can use fingerprints instead of your Samsung account password when logging in with your Samsung account. As the example, when you purchase an item(app, game, watch face, etc) in the Galaxy Apps or an item(wallpaper, theme, icon, or AOD) in the Samsung themes store, you can use your fingerprints to confirm your identity instead of entering your Samsung account password.

If you have registered fingerprints in your Samsung Galaxy S8, you can set it as an alternative screen lock so you can use your fingerprints to unlock the screen instead of your current screen lock. Fingerprint unlock is a relatively secure screen lock method because it uses the unique characteristics of each fingerprint but simple because you just need to place your finger that you have registered before on the sensor to unlock the screen.


How to use fingerprints as an alternative screen lock?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Tap Lock screen and security.
  3. Tap Screen lock type.
  4. Perform your current screen lock. As the example, if your current screen lock is set to pattern, draw the pattern to confirm your identity.
  5. Tap the ON/OFF switch next to Fingerprints to enable or disable it. When the switch turns means the fingerprint unlock feature is enabled.
  6. Press the Power key twice to go to the lock screen.
  7. Instead of your current screen lock, you can use fingerprints to unlock the screen by placing your finger that you have registered before on the fingerprint sensor(it's located in the right side of the rear camera). When your phone recognises your fingerprint, the screen will be unlocked.

In Samsung Galaxy S8, you can register multiple fingerprints that you can use for some purposes, e.g., as an alternative screen lock so you can use your fingerprints to unlock the screen instead of your current screen lock type, as an alternative way to verify your identity when logging in to your Samsung account so you can use your fingerprints instead of your Samsung account password, to use the fingerprint sensor gesture feature so you can use fingerprints to open up or close the notification panel, etc.


How to register fingerprints?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Tap Lock screen and security.
  3. Tap Fingerprint scanner.
  4. Perform your current screen lock. As the example, if your current screen lock is set to pattern, draw your pattern to confirm your identity.
  5. Place a finger you want to register to on the fingerprint sensor(it's located in the right side of the rear camera) to scan your fingerprint, lift it off, then repeat. Move your finger left or right slightly between attempts.
  6. When the scanning process is completed, tap Done button.
  7. Your fingerprint has been successfully registered.

Samsung Galaxy S8: How to Enable and Use Clipboard Edge Panel in Android 7.0 Nougat

Clipboard edge is one of default edge panels in Samsung Galaxy S8 that you can use to access clipboard where you can view all copied items from the edge screen to let you easily paste the required one to the currently opened text field or share it to others. It can be an alternative way to access the clipboard because you can do so by utilising the edge screen instead of long tapping your finger on a text field or using the clipboard button on the keyboard.


How to enable the clipboard edge panel?
Assuming that the edge panels feature is enabled, you can do so by using the following steps:
  1. While the main screen is turned on, drag the edge panel handle towards the centre of the screen to open the edge panel.
  2. Tap at the bottom of the screen to quickly go to the edge panels menu.
  3. Swipe the screen to the left or right to find the Clipboard edge panel and then check the box above this panel to enable it.
  4. The clipboard edge panel has been enabled.


How to use the clipboard edge panel?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. While the main is turned on, drag the edge screen handle towards the centre of the screen to open the edge panels.
  2. Swipe the edge screen to the left or right until you find the clipboard edge panel.
    Here, you can sort items in the clipboard edge panel with the following categories:
    • Recommended: select this option to view recommended items based on the currently opened app.
    • All: select this option to view all items on the clipboard edge panel.
    • Locked: select this option to view locked items on the clipboard edge panel. This option will be available if you have locked items before.
    • Text: select this option to view all copied text.
    • Image: select this option to view all copied images, including with screenshot.
  3. If you're opening a screen or app where you can enter text, this icon will be displayed in each item in the clipboard edge panel. Tap to easily paste the selected item into the text field.
  4. If you'd like to share an item from the clipboard edge panel to others, do as follows:
    • Tap the required item on the clipboard edge panel and then tap Share.
    • Tap the required share method. As the example, we'll share it via Wi-Fi direct.
    • Select the required device you want to share with.
    • The selected item will be shared to the selected device via Wi-Fi direct.
  5. If you'd like to remove an item from the clipboard edge panel, long tap the required item and then select Remove.
  6. If you have a lot of items on your clipboard edge panel, you can lock those important for you for easier access by long tapping the required item and then select Lock. Locked items will be labelled with this icon .

Samsung Galaxy S8: How to Use Blue Light Filter Feature in Android 7.0 Nougat

Blue light filter is a feature in Samsung Galaxy S8 that you can use to make your phone limits the amount of blue light emitted by the screen to help you sleep better because the secretion of melatonin in your body which causes you to become sleepy won't be distracted even if you have to stare your phone's screen at night and uses warmer colors to save your eyes from strain especially if you often use your phone at night or in darkened rooms. As a note, since this feature effects the screen only, all photos, videos, or screenshots taken while this feature is enabled will be saved in normal colors.


How to use the blue light filter feature?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Tap Display.
  3. Tap Blue light filter.
  4. To turn on the blue light filter feature immediately, tap the ON/OFF switch next to Turn on now. When the switch turns blue means this feature is enabled and your phone will filter blue light emitted by the screen and use warmer colors to help you sleep better and prevent eyes strain.
    Alternatively, you can quickly turn on or off the blue light filter feature by swiping down the top of the screen using two fingers to open up the quick settings panel and then tap the Blue light filter button . The button turns blue when it's enabled.
  5. If needed, you can adjust the colors temperature when the blue light filter feature is enabled by sliding the blue light filter opacity adjustment bar to the left for a brighter screen colors or to the right for a warmer screen colors.
  6. If needed, you can set a schedule for when you want to use the blue light filter feature by using the following steps:
    • Tap the ON/OFF switch next to Turn on as scheduled.
    • Select Custom schedule and then adjust the start time and the end time to set your phone to automatically enable and disable the blue light filter feature at scheduled time. As the example, if you set the start time to 7:00 PM and the end time to 7:00 AM next day, the blue light filter feature will automatically be turned on at 7:00 PM and turned off at 7:00 AM next day.
    • Select Sunset to sunrise to set your phone to automatically enable the blue light filter feature when sun sets in your current location and disable this feature at sunrise. Since using this feature needs to use your location information, you'll be asked to turn on Location if it's off.
