When needed, you can do some customisations in the Messages app in your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, one of which is changing the background image within conversations to another preloaded image if you're bored with the current one or to your own image for more personal touch.


How to change background image within conversations in the Messages app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Backgrounds.
  4. To use your own picture as the background image within conversations, do as follows:
    • Tap the thumbnail with at the bottom left corner of the screen.
    • Select the required image you want to use.
    • If needed, you can adjust the size of the selected picture you want to use as the background image by dragging the edge of the white frame . You can also use another part of the selected picture as the background image by dragging the white frame to the desired part.
    • Tap Done button to save the changes.
    • The selected image has been set as the background image within all conversations in the Messages app.
  5. To use other pre-loaded image as the background image within conversations, do as follows:
    • Swipe the bottom of the screen that displays the background image thumbnails to the left to view available pre-loaded images.
    • Tap the required thumbnail of a pre-loaded image you want to use. You'll get the preview when you tap each of them so you'll get an idea how it might look like when a background image is selected.
    • The selected image has been set as the background image within all conversations in the Messages app.

Quick responses is a feature available in the Messages app in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that you can use to quickly respond unanswered calls or incoming text messages with the preset messages that you create in advance.


How to manage the quick responses feature in the Messages app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Quick responses.
  4. To add a new quick response, enter the required message in the Enter message field and then tap . The message has been added to the quick responses list.
  5. To delete an existing quick response, tap next to the required message. The selected message has been deleted from the quick responses list.
  6. To edit an existing quick response, tap the required message and then make the required changes. Once done, tap Save button to save the changes.


How to use the quick responses feature in the Messages app?
As the example, we'll use this feature to quickly respond an unanswered call with a preset message by using the following steps:
  1. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap Message in the missed call notification to reply it with message.
  2. In the conversation, tap More at the top right and then select Quick responses.
  3. Tap the required quick response you want to use in your message.
  4. Tap Send button to send the message.

Aside from letting you block text messages from unwanted phone numbers, the default text message blocker feature in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge also lets you block text messages contain with a specific phrase by adding the required phrase to the block list. When a text message with a blocked phrase arrives, you won't be notified and the message will be redirected automatically to the Blocked messages folder. You can use this feature to effectively block spam messages that usually use or contain specific phrases.


How to block text messages contain with unwanted phrases?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Block messages.
  4. Tap Block phrases.
  5. Enter the required phrase that will cause incoming messages to be blocked in the Enter text field and then tap .
  6. The phrase has been added to the block list and all text messages contain with this phrase will be blocked. As the example, if you add the phrase "surprise" to the block list, all messages contain with this phrase will be blocked and redirected automatically to the Blocked messages folder.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has the default text message blocker feature that will let you block unwanted phone numbers from sending you text messages by adding the phone number to the block list. When a text message from a blocked number arrives, you won't be notified and the message won't be listed in your inbox or conversation list because it will be redirected automatically to the Blocked messages folder.


How to block text messages from unwanted phone numbers?
As the example, we'll add a phone number to the block list by using three different methods: from the Messages app settings menu, from a conversation, and from a call log.

Method #1: From the Messages app settings menu
  1. Open Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Block messages.
  4. Tap Block list.
  5. Enter the required phone number you want to block in the Enter number field. Alternatively, you can tap Inbox to add the sender of a message in the Messages app to the block list or tap Contacts to add a contact from your contacts list to the block list. Tap to add the phone number to the block list. Repeat this step to add more numbers to the list.
  6. The selected phone number has been added to the block list and all text messages come from this phone number will be blocked.


Method #2: From a conversation
  1. While you're reading a message comes from an unwanted phone number, tap More at the top right and then select Block number.
  2. Slide the ON/OFF switch next to Message block to the right to enable it. If needed, you can also delete all conversations with the selected phone number by checking the box in the left side of the Delete conversation option. Tap OK button.
  3. The sender of the selected conversation has been added to the block list and all text messages come from this phone number will be blocked.


Method #3: From a call log
  1. While you're in the call log, tap the required log whose text messages you want to block.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Block/unblock number.
  3. Slide the ON/OFF switch next to Message block to the right to enable it and then tap OK button.
  4. The phone number of the selected call log has been added to the block list and all text messages come from this phone number will be blocked.

If you cannot send messages to a short number in your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge because you have accidentally set the permission of sending premium text messages to never allow, you have to change the permission to always allow so you can send messages to a short number again.


How to change the premium SMS permission?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Applications and then tap it.
  3. Tap Application manager.
  4. Tap More at the top right and then select Show system apps.
  5. Scroll down the screen to find Message service and then tap it.
  6. Tap Send premium text message and then select Always allow so you can send text messages to a short number.
  7. The permission of sending premium SMS has been set to Always allow. Now, you can send a text message to a short number again.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Lock or Unlock Locked Messages in Messages App in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

The Messages app in your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge doesn't let you create new folders to manage your messages. The lack of this ability may throw you to the situation where you can accidentally delete an important message or some within a conversation. To avoid this problem, you can lock that message to have your phone asks for your permission first before it can be deleted. All locked messages will be listed in the locked messages folder to help you easily find them when you need them, e.g.,  forward a locked message to another contact, unlock a locked message or some, copy text of a locked message to other apps, etc.


How to lock a message in the Messages app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap a conversation.
  3. Long tap the required message you want to lock and then select Lock.
  4. This icon will be displayed in the selected message as a sign that it has been locked. FYI, if you enable the auto delete old messages feature, locking a message will prevent your phone to auto delete it.


How to unlock locked messages in the Messages app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Locked messages. All locked messages will be listed here.
  3. To unlock all locked messages, do as follows:
    • Tap Edit at the top right.
    • Check the box in the left side of Select messages to select all locked messages.
    • Tap Unlock at the top right.
    • All locked messages have been unlocked.
  4. To unlock a single locked message, do as follows:
    • Long tap a locked message you want to unlock to select it.
    • Tap More at the top right and then select Unlock.
    • The selected message has been unlocked.
